The Treaty of Versailles affected the political climate in Europe by creating tensions between countries. Germany was forced to sign the treaty because all the blame was put on them. They were made to pay war reparations, which put them is huge debt. They now had a greater hatred for the Allies and the countries that made them up. With the treaty signed and new boundaries being drawn up, self-determination was a major factor. All of the smaller countries, which were under great imperial control wanted their own land and their country of their own. This caused problems because of the land now had to be split so everyone got what they deserved and even determining what each country deserved was a hard concept to understand. Economically, each of the governments that had been involved in the war have had to get back and regain what they had lost by being in the war. So each government was trying to recooperate and by giving up land and the conference made the task harder. The political climate was a very tense one and many decisions had to be made in this tense situation. |
