My "NEW" 74 Capri|
I was looking for a Mk1 Capri that was close enough to road ready that I could continue to enjoy driving a Capri while my 73 is going through its extensive renovation. I learned of this car in Texas. I spoke with the owner a few times and decided it was the car for me. A long weekend and 1900 miles later it was in my driveway. These are pictures sent to me by the previous owner. .. |

Since getting it home, we have swapped the engine for a 2.0 I had in storage (the original engine acted fine when I bought it, but began burning oil at a frantic pace when we got it home.), the shifter was replaced, and the front struts and control arms have been replaced. The original control arm bushings were shot and the front was lowered about 2 inches. New brakes and paint are next in line....
The Red paint on the car had been painted over the original paint. Just too much material there! I had to take the car back down to metal...
After some mild bodywork, and a little filler, it was time for the etching primer. The nicest description from my teenagers was "Kermit" green. Some kids riding by asked if I was going to leave it that color!
After filler primer, much sanding and some more etching primer I finally got in painted and assembled enough to take it to the All European Car show...the trip was an adventure that will get its own story as I develop the page further. Chrome bumpers from a 73 will be added once I modify the brackets..
