| After having this for 28 years I'm probably better informed about it than most doctors I've been to over the years. I've gone from using a cane, to using forearm crutches, to using a wheelchair. I've learned what my limitations are, and I try to stay optomistic. I find that if I can keep my mind busy, and hang around fun - upbeat people I feel much better....ok....I feel somewhat better. | One thing that helped me was to get out of my abusive marriage. We'd been married only 2 years when it began. Little by little the abuse grew over the years. By the 12th year of our marriage I'd begun planning my suicide. I figured being totally disabled and in a wheelchair, there was no way for me to support myself financially and get out. Then one night a stranger listened to my troubles and suggested I try to get alimony. I eventually found a lawyer willing to work with me, and a year and a half later I began getting my alimony. That coupled with the meager Social Security Disability check I receive is almost enough to survive on...if I live with my Mom. There are times when I'm lying awake in bed at night that I wonder what I'll do when she's gone. There's no place else for me to go really, and I can't begin to live in Florida. Maybe I'll become one of those people who lives in their car. (lol) |

| My name is Mary. I'm a Co-Founder of the Fibromyalgia Support Group, and a moderator in our chat room. I'm 45 years old, and live with my 82 year old Mother in West Palm Beach, Florida. I first got sick with fibromyalgia in the spring of 1978, when I was 18 years old. Like most people with Fibromyalgia you go from one doctor to another trying |
| to get a diagnosis and some relief. It took me ten years of searching before I found out what I had. |
