Chapter One - Introduction
1.) Explain what is meant by the term cross-cultural human development.

  This is the umbrella term used to describe similarities and differences in development from culture to culture around the world.

2.) Demonstrate the familiarity with the important themes demonstrated in this chapter.

          A.  Cross-cultural Perspective -  The more recent perspective of researchers and scientists in the field, which demonstrates similarities between and across cultures.
          B.   Ecological Systems Approach -  Looking at behavior in its settings and social contexts, and how all of the life systems effect each other.
          C.   Developmental Niche -  The developmental model which looks at development as it relates to the child's settings, customs, and caregiver psychology.
          D.   Developmental Orientation -  The belief that our behaviors do not come in isolated incidents, but instead are a continuously growing behavior.
          E.   Chronological-within-topics-approach -  The systematic manner in which the book is made, tackling each topic in an orderly fashion within each topic discussed.

3.) Comment on the three goals set forth for the field of cross-cultural psychology.

            The three goals are;
                       1.  Testing and extending the generalizability of existing theories and findings.  This means always keeping data tested and current, which shall improve the quality of the field.
                       2.  Exploring other cultures to discover variations of behavior that may not be part of ones own culture.  This includes learning the differences between cultures across the world.
                       3.  Integrating the findings so that a more universal psychology is able to be applied to a wide range of cultural settings.  This involves deep study and comparisons to make findings understandable and complete.

4.) Why do the authors emphasize a practical application approach to the subject.

            A practical application allows for a clear, even understanding of the topic without creating a lot of confusion for the reader.
