OK long story here. Around 2002 or so, New Line Studios tried to get a Danger Girl movie off the ground. It was rumored at the time that Geri Halliwell a.k.a. Ginger Spice (back when she had red hair and really awesome boobs, take a look over to the left there) was going to portray some member of the team. It was never reported which member exactly she was going to be, but my moneys on Sydney. Anywho, something went wrong and the movie never got very far, its unlikely that a full script was even written although some plot ideas were developed. A few months later, UPN purchased the rights to make a Danger Girl TV show and the plot ideas that were developed for the movie. The bits and pieces that have leaked onto the internet suggest that the show would have mostly focused on Abbey and that her mother, who has never been seen in the books at all, would also be a major character. Jessica Biel was apparently in negotiations to play Abbey in a pilot episode, but this idea ran out of gas and never happened. You must admit that there is a pretty good likeness between the two.
The TV rights reverted back to Campbell a few years ago and of course the UPN is no more, having merged with the WB to make the CW network. But anyhow, heres all the news about the project as it was developing so you can read about this show that never made it out of development hell (lucky you).
Reported By Wizard Magazine - Jan 31, 2003:
Wizard magazine reports in its January issue that the Danger Girl producers are apparently thinking about casting one of the stars of 7th Heaven and the next Texas Chainsaw Massacre flick (coming out later in 2003), Jessica Biel, for Abbey Chase, the heroine of the show based on the comic created by J. Scott Campbell and Andy Hartnel.
Reported By Comics Continuum - Nov 23, 2002:
The Comics Continuum talked to Danger Girl producer Adrian Askarieh last week about the upcoming UPN show. Askarieh said the live-action series will be faithful to the comic book, with many familiar characters including Deuce, Sydney Savage, Natalia Kassle and Johnny Barracuda.
"It's very true to the spirit of the comic book," Askarieh said. "The first episode we're creating is as faithful to the comic as any show I can remember."
Askarieh also dropped a few tidbits about the direction of the plot, saying the show will center on Abbey Chase, and Danger Girl vs. Hammer Syndicate will be a main theme. There will also be a new character, Abbey's mom, who will be an important part of the show.
Reported By Hollywood Reporter - Nov 21, 2002:
Danger Girl is making the rounds again according to The Hollywood Reporter. This time J. Scott Campbell and Andy Hartnell's occasionally-published comic is being looked at as live-action a UPN TV series.
Producers Chuck Gordon and Adrian Askarieh are on board to develop the show with writer Analisa LaBianco writing the script. LaBianco describes the concepts as a cross between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Gordon and Askarieh are executive producing the project, with LaBianco serving as a co-executive producer. Danger Girl creators Campbell and Hartnel will also serve as co-executive producers.
Danger Girl had previously been developed as a live-action feature film for New Line Cinema, with Hartnell penning the screenplay.
