A Prayer

Give me swift wings into your kingdom; let me fall gently
into your arms, and quench quickly the burning fires.

Lead me to find the lost, those buried in darkness; give me
rest without sleep; ease my hunger without food.

Thank you for my mommy's voice, my daddy's arms.

Thank you that I got to say hello.
Thank you that I got to say goodbye.

Forgive my cheering, for I am a child, and I do not
understand. Send your angels to show me a better way,
and let me not walk in the way of my forefathers.

As I determine fates of nations, give me wisdom,
for I am just a man.

Forgive my arrogance; I deserve no more peace
than I seek for my neighbor.

Let me not give in to hate. Even as I march into battle to
defend, to punish, let me not give in to hate.

Open my heart to my brother, my sister,
rich, poor, black, white, young, old, beautiful, ugly, gay,
straight, Christian, Muslim, Jew.

I abandon the temple of right to kneel at the throne of love.
Let me never be the same.
