About..... "Sing To Me Sweetly"
The only song on the CD which I didn`t write about anybody, or any particular experience. I had put the guitar progression together and practiced it over a few months. One night after practicing it, I decided to try and make up a song around the progression.
Obviously a minor key, like the vast majority of my songs, it was to be yet another tale of woe. The woe of lost love. The days when you wake up and try so hard to go back to the sleep, just not wanting to face another day without a lost lover. The one who seemed to make the day seem so special.
The simple fact is, that you can rest assured that these emotions have been with us, and probably always be with us, since time eternal.
And so I decided that the simple chord progression lent itself to a simple song, a folk song. The days of maidens and knights in gleaming armour. Of Kings and Queens, Jesters and Minstrels.
The girl in the song could have been anyone. The maiden losing her Knight, the Princess losing her Prince, The Queen losing her King. The girl in the house across the road whose husband or boyfriend has left her. Delusions that they'll soon return, so why be so sad?
Asleep, dreaming of better times, of fantasies figures and folklore, of perfect lovers. And awaking to find yourself alone in bed once more. Once more it was only a dream. But the dream being better then reality, so better to shut your eyes and spend as much time there instead of reality. But unable now to sleep.
Whoever you are, whatever position you hold, whatever sexuality you are even, anyone who has lost a true love knows the devastation inside. And whether you can disguise it or not, it`s there. In you, gnawing away. Affecting everything you do. Your main confidant, is no longer contactable. Alone really means alone. The warmth inside replaced with cold terror and misery.
But the comfort of sleep allowing us to dream that everything is perfect again for a short few hours. Not wanting to wake up at all.
