Show pupils a coke can

 

Does the can cost less or more to make than the Coke?  More

Where is the metal taken out of the ground? Australia

 

Then two month journey by a ship

 

Where is the metal heated? Sweden or Norway

How long does it take heat the metal?  Two hours.

How long does it take for the metal to cool down?  Two weeks

Where is the metal rolled in to sheets?  Germany

How hot does the metal have to be to be rolled in to sheets?  Nine hundred degrees.

Where are the sheets of metal made in to cans?  England

How many times are they painted?  Twice

How many times are they washed?  Three times

In Coke, where does the sugar come from?  France

Where does the phosphorus come from?  Under the ground in America.

How many cans are produced every minute?  One thousand five hundred

Where does the cardboard come from that makes the box that the can goes in?  Canada, Russia or Germany

How long does a can stay in the supermarket before someone buys it?  Three days

How many cans are thrown away?  88 out of 100.

If you wanted to build all the planes in America out of thrown away Coke cans, how long would it take for enough cans to be thrown away?  Three months.

 

Tell story of Adam and Eve in the garden.  God asked them to look after the world for him.  That means making sure things don’t run out and aren’t wasted.  The metal won’t last forever.  Don’t throw things away.

 

Dear God, thank you that you asked us to help make your world a better place.  We are sorry for the way we waste things.  Help us to look after your creation in everything we do.  Amen.
