Returning the Bovine to Gar

Cast of Characters

RP:

Stanbogan Waves a welcome. She trots on her runner over near those who have just arrived. She is already a bit sweaty and has obviously been working. "Are you here to help with the herding to Gar?"

Xadrienne backs her mount up a few steps, then forward the same amount of steps before halting him. A grin is tossed to Stanbogan, and she nods. "Aye, we are. What do you want us to do?"

Squaln stands next to his runner and gives the mare a pat on the neck after checking his saddle and gear one last time. "Easy, girl." is said to the animal. A voice is then heard and the Journeyman turns towards the inquiring voice near by. "Yes, both of us are." he replies, nodding towards the fellow herder. "Just let us know what you'd like done."

While her mount side-steps. So, Stanbogan has to call across the backs of the four bovine that are moving toward the gate. "As far as I know, we just have to keep them together and moving toward Gar. If you can suggest something, I would certainly appreciate any help."

Xadrienne stretches, twitching the reins to get Kabuki's attention. The stallion snorts loudly, but the apprentice ignores him, eyeing the bovine carefully. "Shouldn't be too hard. I've done it before, though my runner hasn't. Oh well.

Squaln grabs some of the runner's mane and swings himself up onto the saddle with ease. "Well," he says, gathering reins and glancing about as he does. "We'll certainly help all that we can." Reins are then tugged upon and Legacy starts striding towards the cattle slowly. "The herd isn't that big, so it should be easy riding towards Gar."

You hear the clank of metal as the fence-gate shuts.

The make-shift gate swings closed behind you as you enter.
Kabuki has arrived.
Legacy's Wonder has arrived.

Stanbogan stays beside the cattle as they exit through the gate. She makes some noises to help head the herd west. Then she waves her hat at the others. "Are your beasties able to move easily?"

From Kabuki's back, Xadrienne moves Kabuki up into a shuffling trot, staying behind the herd and slightly to the right. "Yep. Well, mine is," she replies without turning her gaze away from the cattle.

From Legacy's Wonder's back, Squaln looks over his shoulder at the back of the small bovine herd, observing the animals as they make their way through the gate. His position is on the left side of the herd, guiding them as best he can. "Legacy here? She'll be fine. This is her first cattle drive, though." he replies with a grin. "She can keep up."

Moving along the side of the line of cattle, Stanbogan straightens her hat and kicks her runner toward the west. Smiling, she hollers, "Since all looks all right, let's take them through the farm."

From Kabuki's back, Xadrienne nudges Kabuki into a slightly faster trot, and the stallion snorts in anticipation of galloping, but the Herder holds him firmly in check. "This isn't a race, Buki." Stanbogan recieves a nod. "The farm? Okay."

From Legacy's Wonder's back, Squaln urges the runner on and they break into a smooth canter alongside of the cattle, making sure none decide to stray. Ah, the open range. The fresh air. A.. straying beast? Eye. When a young bovine decides to step out of the herd and amble back, the Journeyman lets out a piercing whistle and the mare jerks to the right, preventing the beast from getting past them. "All's well. Press on.." he calls out to the others when the bovine steps back into the herd.

You go to the Farm Yard.

Stanbogan stops her runner at the entry to the barn yard making sure that the bovine have to head toward the paved road. "That road should be the easiest path to the waystation!" She points toward the wide road.

From Kabuki's back, Xadrienne mumbles as her mount does a happy buck, and quickly starts talking to him, getting him to settle down. "Okay, sounds good," she calls, moving Kabuki deftly towards one of the straying bovines and getting him back in with the herd.

From Legacy's Wonder's back, Squaln pulls back on the reins and slows the runner to a smooth trot as the bovine make their way into the farm yard. Stanbogan's directions are then heard and the Herder nods, urging the mare onward and back into a canter. "Sounds good." he calls back to them both. Attention then rests upon Xadrienne for the moment. "Everything all right, Xad?" Just checking, of course.

Stanbogan's runner stomps his feet trying to prance in place as the bovine pass her position. She finally is within talking distance when she says, "I'll run back to their left as soon as all are past the barn!"

From Kabuki's back, Xadrienne grins over at Sqa. "Yeah. Kabuki's just skittish. I should've brought one of my calmer runners, buuuut he needs experience." She sends the stallion into a smooth canter, her grip on the reins firm enough to keep him from suddenly bolting.

From Legacy's Wonder's back, Squaln tugs the reins back to the right and circles around as the cattle press on, watching to make sure they make it through. The mare snorts and grows antsy as the bovine pick up speed a little bit. "Easy.." is said to the animal.

Xadrienne is then grinned at in return. "Alright, just making sure." His hand is then raised and waved after he passes Stanbogan, letting her know that he heard her.

You go to the Paved Road.
Paved Road
This heavily used road is the connection between Grinstead Hold and the smaller farm of Gordon's. Eastwards, a young orchard stretches toward the cliffs with the sea beyond. By the orchards, to the northwest, you see the glossy green carpet of numbweed. Westwards and inlands lays a group of fields.
It is a spring noon.

Stanbogan allows the stallion to gallop toward the side of the cattle. She again raises her voice, "We just have to keep them out of the groves and onto Gar Road."

From Kabuki's back, Xadrienne moves her stallion alongside the cattle, keeping them from going off the road on her side. "This is fun," she comments to no one in particular. Or at least she thinks that, until Kabuki throws a huge buck and Xad smacks her forehead against the back of his neck as he brings it back up. "Stupid sharding..thing."

From Legacy's Wonder's back, Squaln waves his hand once again to let Stanbogan know that he heard her. His knees then press into the mare's side and she picks up the pace a little bit now as the bovine move faster. A sharp whistle is let out every now and again when a young bovine decides to stray. "Mind the groves.." he calls out to Xadrienne. "And.. mind Kabuki." Eh heh.

Stanbogan looks back just in time to see Xadrienne hit her head. She pulls up on her runner screaming across the hoof noise, "Do you need help?" The runner turns in a circle to the command as Sta strains to see.

From Kabuki's back, Xadrienne shakes her head at Stanbogan. "Nah, I'm okay. Not the first time it's happened." She grins, then sticks out her tongue at Squa. "Thanks for the advice." She spins Kabuki in a tight circle to slow him down and get him to listen, and then lets him move back up into a canter.

From Legacy's Wonder's back, Squaln would go see if Xadrienne needs any help, but, there's a herd of cattle between them both and prevents him from doing so. The thundering hooves of the bovine deafen his hearing slightly and the Journeyman keeps an eye on the apprentice as he continues herding the cattle.

You go to the Gar CrossRoads.
Gar CrossRoads
The road starts rising here as it heads toward the mountains of Ista. Wagon ruts criss-cross the paths to and from Grinstead and Gar. The air is filled with the sounds of birds chirping from the surrounding woods, from which the trail was cut. A newly carved sign is placed just to the side. Carved on the sign is an arrow pointing North with the words Gar Hold' and an arrow pointing South with the words Grinstead Hold'.
It is a spring noon.

Kabuki skitters in from the Paved Road.

Stanbogan smiles and give a thums up to Xadrienne,as she allows her runner to walk a little as they make their way toward Gar. "we are to water them at the way station which is just a short way off the Gar Road path."

From Kabuki's back, Xadrienne nods silently, slowly Kabuki back down a touch so he doesn't get too tired. "This is almost too easy. They're not trying to run off from us or anything."

From Legacy's Wonder's back, Squaln slows the runner down to walk as they make their way up to the crossroads. "Alright." he replies to Stanbogan, still keeping an eye on the cattle closest to him. The mare then swivels an ear and remains attentive even as they both walk. "That's the way we like it to be, Xad."

Stanbogan watches as the slow, fat bovine move in a farily orderly manner as she moves to the edge of the road. She calls across again, "Gar raises nice beasties!" and she laughs aloud.

From Kabuki's back, Xadrienne smirks. "I'd like a little more entertainment. Just having them walk in a straight line.." She trails off and shrugs. "Oh well. I'll survive."

From Legacy's Wonder's back, Squaln guides the runner alongside of the cattle for the time being. "I'd prefer to not have one break a leg.." he replies with a half grin. "Sarrol's not hear to mend it, so, this is just perfect. Nice beasties." Nod. Chaos is bad during cattle drives.. Oy.

You go to the Gar Road.
Gar Road
The road runs through the mountains of Ista. As you follow it's turns and twists, you get some very spectacular views. Some trees and bushes dot the path as you progress. Occasionally, you cross in front of a cavern cut for the weary traveler or for protection from thread. The fresh scent of good clean air fills you lungs as you travel. A sign points South toward Grinstead, North toward Gar Hold, and along its bottom is a newly attached addition with the words 'WAYSTATION' and an arrow pointing West.
It is a spring noon.

Stanbogan squeezes in closer to the bovine as the road narrows. She waves her hand for attention, "That's the path to the waystation!.It might get tight in there."

Natch makes her way in from the Orchard Path.

The runner, Kabuki, kicks up and has to be taken from the drive.

Natch strides up, walking stick jauntily accomanying her. When she sees Stanboghan she waves it over her head.

From Legacy's Wonder's back, Squaln lets out another sharp whistle when a bovine attempts to stray. Legacy jerks to the right and stops the animal before it has time to go anywhere else, proving that she's had good training thus far. Proud Sqa. "Almost there.." he says to himself after the bovine meshes back into the herd.

Stanbogan waves from her runner's back to Natch. "We are almost to the watering station, and I think they will need it!" She then turns to Squaln, Just help me keep 'um in line a little longer." She smiles through the dirt and sweat.

Natch falls in beside Stanbogan and moves with her towards Gar Hold. "I see you are making good time"

From Legacy's Wonder's back, Squaln nods and tugs the reins to the left, keeping the bovine in check still. Natch is then waved at as well with a greeting shortly afterwards. "Greetings." He'd talk more, but, the bovine won't wait for just anyone.. sadly, not even him. "I can see the watering station from here.."

You go to the Waystation Courtyard.
Waystation Courtyard
A shady clearing appears in the midst of the encroaching forest, the tall spires of skybroom towering above like silent sentinels. Judging by the looks of some of the foliage in the clearing and the short, wide stumps of newly felled trees, the clearing has only recently been worked on, much like the waystation itself. The building appears somewhat small from the outside, compact in its efficiency. Most of the rockface of the outer wall has been newly built up while the roof has been completely replaced with earthy red tiles, the new metal gutters gleaming softly. A simple lean-to stable has been set up against the side of the building, close to the forest to give the runners shade from the...
It is a spring afternoon.

Natch makes her way in from the Gar Road.
Legacy's Wonder walks in from the Gar Road.

Stanbogan turns her stallion to allow the 4 bovine some room at the trouth. "Time for a rest!" She grins broadly as she dismounts. "Time for a break."

Natch calls for Garish hands to take the herdbeasts to a safe area as she joins Stanbogan. "You look well, considering the day you must be having. It'll be nice to have them back," she smiles, thinking of fresh creamy butter and copious cream on her berries.

From Legacy's Wonder's back, Squaln brings up the rear and watches as the bovine stop for a much needed drink at the trough. "Well, that was certainly one of the easier drives I've been on." he says with a grin. A hand is then run through his hair as he haults Legacy and watches the bovine a bit longer. "Well, glad I could oblige, but now I have to head back." With a nod to both woman, the Journeyman turns the runners and trots off.

Stanbogan offers her thanks to the herder. "Much thanks! Come back to Grinstead anytime and we'll make you welcome."

Natch offers to hold the reins for Stanbogan. "Care to whet your own whistle?" she asks with a nod to the waystation, or do you ahve to get back?"

Stanbogan smiles nicely at Natch in thanks for the help. "I can't stay too long, but a drink before I head back might be nice."

Natch nods with a grin and waits for Stanbogan to join her, nattering about small things that have been happening at Gar Hold. "And Markus has decided to retire from Gar and Headman Petrin is off at the Dolphin Hall again."

Stanbogan and Natch go to the Waystation Main Room.
