When I first saw the opening I nearly gagged on the kawaii happy girlieness of it. This anime is definitely shoujo, so if you want some real substance and serious antagony, check elsewhere. This show is maniacal.
It's one of those hyper school girl, boy-crazy, mall-strutting, hot gossipy the-moral-of-the-episode-is shows. You know the deal. But that doesn't stop this show from being cute.
Ran Kotobuki, daughter of policeman father and policewoman mother, is a self-proclaimed Super Gal. What's a Gal? A gorgeous femme who stakes out a part of the town as her own territory and sees that she is above her competition in looks, style, attitude, and tact. Ran sees herself as THE Super Gal of Shibuya and upholds her title everyday. She is a strange girl, which is evident after viewing the first episode. But it provides for good entertainment. Oh, and her parents and little sister are always bugging her to follow suit and become a policewoman, which she obviously doesn't want to be.
She is flanked by Miyu Yamazaki, the girlfriend of Ran's brother, Yamato, who is also working in law enforcement. She is way less wild than Ran and thinks before she acts. Her relationship with Yamato is too cute and innocent--sweet enough to rot your teeth, until something ridiculous happens. Sometimes that is a drawback--nothing too serious ever happens that can't be fixed in the span of one episode. She used to be in a gang and is passionate and dedicated to her relationship.
The third Gal is Aya Hoshino, the most soft-spoken out of the three and somewhat introverted. She worries herself over conflicts in her own life and is academically superior in comparison to her classmates. She develops a crush on Rei Otohata, Shibuya's #1 male high school model. This in iteslf takes up a chunk of the story.
Shibuya's #2 is Yuya Asou (called "Nii" by Ran, which means "two"), who is best buddies with Rei and hangs out with him most of the time. He's hopelessly fallen for Ran but has competition when Tatsuki Kuroi comes. That provides a lot of laughs, too. The rest is Ran's antics meshed into everything else.
As I said before, this show runs on an episode-to-episode basis. Every one is different and usually teaches you some kind of lesson with humor thrown in there. It can get kinda crazy but it is funny. I seen about half the series and even that I couldn't watch several episodes in one sitting. But that could be me.
