DREADWEAVER

Created in a land swallowed in the darkness of a dreadful war, Dreadweaver - Bane of Kings was forged to destroy a long dead enemy, in a war that was forgotten eons ago in a world that resides in a dimension well beyond GRIFTS Earth. How this terrible artifact came to be here is a story that will never be known, the fact that it is here is a tragedy that has already destroyed many lives, and brought its wielders untold anguish.

Rune Magic is outlawed in any moral magical society. It involves the creation of magical vessels to hold the spirits of beings who are sacrificed during the enchantment process against their will. The more powerful the life force of the creature sacrificed, the stronger the runic item. This type of magic is also known as Bio-Magic and is one of the most terrible forms of slavery ever invented.

One of the several horrid consequences of this frightening form of magic, is that the sacrificed spirit is forever trapped in an item that cannot be destroyed by any means currently known. The entrapped being commonly goes insane quickly, and often looses all sense of sentience and exists as a primal energy source devoid of all feelings save the basic impulses and needs for life. In this form, that need primarily consists of hunger. Runic Items must feed, they will not die without being fed, however the impulse to feed becomes stronger and stronger until it is satiated. An item in such a state can drive any being in contact with it into a fury rage, compelling it to attack another being with the magical item in order for it to feed, sometimes even forcing the wielder to slay himself. Resistance is possible, but few creatures in the Megaverse can long resist the demands of a powerful rune item.

    Powers and Properties of Dreadweaver

  1. Ego of 16
  2. Communicates through empathy
  3. Completely indestructible by any known source
  4. Though not shown in the image, the blade edge is carved with fine runes that contain smaller runes within larger ones. The spiral of runes is magical and becomes smaller and smaller to a subatomic level, and are completely undecipherable.
  5. Links to the wielder who must accept the weapon verbally. The receiver does not have to understand what they are accepting, and can be tricked into accepting a cursed item. Albeit any moral creature would never deceive someone else in such a horrid way. The weapon and wielder can sense each other upon the same plane of existence.
  6. +2 to parry
  7. Does basic damage 2d+2 slashing damage, and basic 1d+1 impaling damage. DR is divided in half when Dreadweaver hits. When Dreadweavers blade penetrates the skin of any living being, it makes a quick contest vs. its Ego and its opponents Health. If the opponent fails he is immediately slain and his soul is destroyed, consumed be the spirit of the demon trapped within the blade. When the weapon feeds this way, it imparts a feeling of vigor and battle lust within its wielder. The bearer immediately gains the Bezerk and Bloodlust disadvantages, and for every 5 pts of health drained is +1 strength and health, and -1 will.
  8. The weapon must feed upon 10 health equivalents every other day or it will send empathic urges to its wielder to hunt for food to feed it. Make an ego quick test vs. wielders will every day it goes without feeding past this point. Wielder gets -1 will per day after the initial impulse. When the sword is starved (-3 will or more) it will force the wielder to attack the nearest living being, if none other than the wielder is available he will commit suicide with the blade! The sword is not satisfied by anything other than sentient beings, killing animals or elementals will have no satiating effects. Once it has drunk enough to get back to a satiated state (i.e. is no longer at negative health equivalents) the weapon will cease sending impulses and no more +/- modifiers will be added to those already existing. The existing modifiers will last for 1 hour after the runesword is satiated. However the soul drinking ability of Dreadweaver is constant even if the blade is full.
  9. If the blade has no current wielder it can attempt to influence a nearby being to take it up and speak the words of acceptance. Use a quick test of Ego vs. willpower with no modifiers no matter how hungry the blade is. The one thing it cannot do is force the prospective wielder to say the words, those it must speak upon its own, getting a feeling of what he sword wants of it.
