Notes for John Washburn
John Washburn, "probably the one Baptized in Bengeworth , Worcestershire, England 28 November 1621, died in
Bridgewater 12 November 1686, son of JOHN and MARGARET (MOORE) WASHBURN."
John Washburn was aged 14 when he arrived in Boston in "midsummer" 1635 on the ship ELIZABETH and ANNE with
brother Philip, age 11, and Mrs. Marjorie Washburn, aged 49, of Evesham, co. Worcester. Much more info in the following
book.
The preceding info was taken from page 79, Third Generation of "FRANCIS COOKE of the MAYFLOWER First Five
Generations" by Ralph V. Wood, Jr., PICTION PRESS, PO Box 250, Rockport, Maine 04856-0250. This book
is also available from : The General Society of Mayflower Descendants, PO Box 3297, Plymouth, MA 02361
This book was just published in 1996 and took years to compile and proof. It is the Authority.
I am myself a Decendant of John Washburn through Francis Cooke. My Mother was a Washburn.
Good Luck.

Misc. Notes
We have included on the following pages some of the information that we have gathered regarding the
descendants of John Washburn Jr. (1621-1686), with a focus on our branch of the Washburn family. Most
Washburns in America are assumed to be descended from either John Washburn Jr., John's younger
brother Philip Washburn (about 1624-after 1700), or William Washburn (1601-1659) who may have been
related to John and Philip in some way.

John Washburn Jr. married a granddaughter of Mayflower passenger Francis Cooke, and therefore all
descendants of John Washburn Jr. are believed to be Mayflower descendants. Certain other branches of
the Washburn family have additional Mayflower lines, including a line running to Mary Chilton, the famous
"Mayflower Orphan."
