| July 6th The Log of the Pacific Explorer, continued June 19th - The pod of misshapen whales has returned. They began shadowing the ship at dusk last night. The sails were rigged again and Greg has run cables from the genny to a pair of old spear guns. That should give them a nasty surprise if they attack. I've put double watches on for the evening. The whales hit us just after three. We have hull damage but the electrical spearguns worked. Lisa has one specimen she is going to dissect at dawn. Happy Birthday to me. June 20th - Lisa finished the autopsy around four. The deck is covered in guts and blubber. What we have been calling "whales" are actually a form of mutant sea bass. The specimen had a form of parasitic life form embedded in the spinal column. Lisa is calling it a "parallel evolution." She swears that it may be able to supplement our dwindling food supplies. I remain skeptical. Greg is calling it some sort of symbiote, Wishbone is calling it black magic. I think Wishbone may need to remain a landlubber from now on. Lisa's reports are getting weirder. The mutant is showing signs of having potent natural defenses aside from better than normal vision, this thing can generate its own anesthetic gas and has overdeveloped digestive juices. Rick and Harry are calling it an anti-S.E.A.L bio-warfare project. I'm not sure who had the tech during the last days, but it makes me nervous. We keep seeing more and more obviously gene-gineered creatures. Someone might still be making them. June 21st - Lisa's attempt at gourmet cooking has crippled my ship. Wishbone and I are the only ones still standing after eating from the stores. Everyone else had some of the mutant and consequently has severe food poisoning. We will be at least two days behind schedule. June 26th - All but two of my crew are back on duty. We have dropped the exploration of the Catalina Islands from the schedule and are heading back to port. I have confined Wishbone to his quarters again. He accused Lisa of attempting to kill the crew in a sacrifice to the "sea spirits." You can decide whether or not to back me up when you get this, but I'll drink spook juice before that little witch doctor gets back on board on my watch. June 30th - We have made port in Shan Fan. Have someone clear my debts with Sparkle Johnny and I'll start repairs on the Explorer. Wishbone and Harry have declined to sign on for the next voyage. Good riddance to the Rasta-boy but I will miss that one-eyed Scotsman. Anyone looking for them can probably find them at the Bronze Dragon. I'll be hitting the docks for their replacements. Alex thanks you for the vodka. He kindly requests that you do not ship it in the Red Bear bottles, however. He is calling it an affront to Mother Russia. July 1st - Blackjack and Li made the delivery today. I look forward to trying it out when we reach the open sea. I hope the pictures made it through the Net legibly. Greg is requesting another package of motherboards in exchange for more time on the electron microscope. We depart at dusk to dodge pirates, Captain Rawlings expects us to make good time, and the trip is expected to last six weeks. With luck. All logs complied by Librarian David Bryant July 17th SACRAMENTO, GREAT MAZE- Journeyman Librarian Annanova was discovered dead in her apartment this morning. Her lover, Katy Foster, is currently sought for questioning. There is a standing offer of four hours on the Library's Teaching Machine offered for Foster being returned, alive and unharmed. SACRAMENTO, GREAT MAZE- The Great Library is offering a fully reconditioned HUMVEE and 16 Gallons of Spook Juice for the return of two tea chests of folios on the occult. Time is of the essence. If the chests are not returned within three days, the offer is null and void. See Librarian Pasternak for details. SACRAMENTO, GREAT MAZE- Molly Four-breasts was found murdered at her place of employment, the Du-drop Inn. Witnesses have reported a figure in powered armor was reported at the scene. Any and all persons owning a powered armor set are to report to the main grounds for an identity parade. Pay is sixteen rounds of ammo (subject to availability) or one charge for a suit. Submitted by the currently vacationing Brother Dominic, Librarian Proper July 25th MEDICINE LODGE, KANSAS- Convoy traders have arrived with a survivor found among the wreckage of a small caravan discovered on the highway outside of town. The Convoy members are at a loss to help the poor stricken individual. For the entire three-day journey to Medicine Lodge, the survivor would only rant and babble endlessly, she is in the throes of a high fever and can barely keep any food or water down. Locals are worried about her ranting. Among the unintelligible grunts and whimpers, she keeps saying that the Prophecy was foretold and the Hunt has been summoned. But she keeps insisting that the Words were twisted and the Hunt has lost the path. Locals are asking that anyone with arcane knowledge and/or medical training make themselves available to help this mysterious survivor. YUMA VILLAGE, ARIZONA- Village residents unhappily report that Melody Arkham's grave has been found vandalized and empty. There are no suspects at this time. Arkham died several months ago of a slit throat, just prior to her pending wedding to Law Dog Dalton Barker. DEVIL'S LAKE, NORTH DAKOTA- Local villagers are reporting a hit and run robbery on the town's well and purification unit. In the early morning hours, town guards spotted three figures creeping over the north wall. The Guards called for them to halt and were fired upon with small pistols. The guards gave chase only to discover the trespassers had pumped a few gallons of water and had made an escape back over the wall and into the night. |
