Librarian's Almanac for August, 2001
August 23rd

NEAR TUCSON, ARIZONA- The town of Near Tucson is logging a plea for aid in the most urgent way
possible. Three days ago, a large convoy of modified cars, pick-ups and motorcycles roared out of the night
and began to siege the village. This unnamed gang is sporting heavy machine guns, and more than a few
grenade launchers. The locals are seriously outgunned and are looking for any help to try and lift the
siege. Dalton Barker, a Law Dog based out of the Yuma Village, is rounding up a posse to try and see where this new bunch of cutthroats got a hold of such heavy weaponry.

HOUMA BAYOU, LOUISIANA- Hunters in the lower bayou reaches are reporting the discovery of an old
petroleum plant just west of Port Sulphur. Once a subsidiary of Black River Industries, the installation
has definitely been hammered by the weather. The hurricane of '90 seems to have reduced almost half of
the grounds to a haphazard mess. But there does look to be some reasonable chances for salvage in the
ruins.

PISTOL RIVER, OREGON- The mutie gunslinger called Nevada Karl is logging a report of a Loyalist
Doomsayer attack on the small coastal village. Karl arrived with a shipment of electronics for a local
junker but discovered that better than half of the town was wrecked and many of the locals had either
been killed or sported multiple new mutations. When he asked around, the survivors spun the story that three Doomsayers led an army of mutants and Grundies into town and started demanding to be told the whereabouts of someone named Marshal Law. Nobody opened their mouths, so the Green Glow Priests went to work. Pistol River residents are willing to trade quite heavily for medical attention.

FAR HOUSTON, TEXAS- Scavengers just returned from the Elron oil fields south of the Houston ruins are holding a very unusual auction. Up on the block is a curious spherical sandstone rock formation encrusted with worked garnets and rubies. Mark Rawlins, the head miner/scavenger is claiming that the find is a priceless pre-war artifact. Two local shamans, Monox and Lung Dart, are claiming that the sphere is emitting a field of energy with as of yet unknown effects. Several Librarians are en-route to Far
Houston to examine the artifact.

HOLYROOD, KANSAS- Combine scouts are reporting several buildings in the small Kansas town are covered in fresh burn marks. Out of the dozen residents only two were discovered alive. The survivors will only repeat the phrase "A Storm is coming."

ICY BLUFF, GREAT MAZE- The scout duo of Preston and Childs has logged a report of a strange formation on the southwest face of Icy Bluff Mesa. Thirty feet down the cliff face is a cave containing a strange altar made of worked rock. Along the surrounding walls are a number of odd sigils and erratic spiral carvings. Anyone with occult or linguistic talent should inquire with the Librarian in Lynchburg.
