| Edith Fern Griffith was born June 25, 1913, in Linton, Indiana, the third child of William and Maude E. Griffith. The family moved to Jasonville, Indiana in 1921 when Edith was eight years old. Edith married John Guthrie Jr. also of Jasonville, on July 25, 1932. John was born on June 9, 1909, the son of John Guthrie Sr., who was born in Paisley, Scotland, and Mary Black Guthrie, born in Glasgow, Scotland. John�s mother was about six months pregnant with John when the family immigrated to America so he always quipped that he was made in Scotland, but born in the USA. John and Edith left Jasonville soon after they were married and moved to Kendallville, Indiana where Edith�s older sister Mildred lived. The couple had two children: Sandra Joanne, born August 5, 1938, in Kendallville, IN, and John Guthrie III, born March 5, 1945. They next moved to Ligonier, Indiana where they opened a small restaurant which they named the 2 X 4. While living in Ligonier they lost their son John Guthrie III in a tragic automobile accident on March 27, 1951. Both John and Edith were able to find work at Penn Electric in Goshen, Indiana so they next moved to Goshen where they lived until they retired. After retirement they purchased a house in Jasonville and moved back home to be near family and friends. John passed away on May 22, 1970 at the age of 61. After the death of, her first husband Edith married Marion Blanton, of rural Worthington, Indiana who had lost his first wife. She soon adapted to life on the farm and became quite happy with her new role as a farmer�s wife. Edith passed away after a short illness on January 16, 1998 at the Lyons Nursing Home in Lyons, Indiana and was buried beside her first husband John at the Fairview cemetery near Linton, Indiana. |
