Griffin Rifle Team falls to rival by 28
A stellar performance by Griffin commander Josh Bennett was not enough to hold off Creekside High School in a long standing rivalry as the Bears rifle team fell to 1-1 on the season with a 1128 - 1100 loss.
Griffin was able to post 1100 points out of the 1200 possible. Bennett set a Griffin single-shooter record with a 289. Last week against Tri-Cities, Bennett qualified for the state high school individuals match in April at the Wolf Creek Olympic Shooting Complex.
On Thursday, team co-commanders Joey Mabry and Justin Lazenby shot consistently with 271 and 263, respectively. Teammates Jeremy Moore (277) and Jessica McClain (260) continue to anchor the Bears in the division championship race.
Coach CSM Julius Lang, brought team member Brent Buck up this week for the practice and was pleased with his work. Buck posted an impressive 263 for his first effort this year.
