| The seventeenth rune and first of the Third Aett of the Elder Futhark is called "Teiwaz". It's sound is "T". Like Ansuz, Teiwaz is a god rune, being the rune of the ancient Northern European sky god Tiwaz. He was known in old England as Tiw and in Scandanavia as Tyr, and gave his name to the third day of the week, Tuesday. The power of Teiwaz is recounted in Norse myth when the courageous god sacrificed his right hand to allow the binding of the destructive Fenris-wolf that threatened the cosmic order. Thus Teiwaz is the rune of positive regulation that needs personal sacrifice to carry it through to a successful result. Any success that comes through Teiwaz will be tempered by sacrifice, whether that means personal stress, hard work, or financial risk. The rune's spearlike shape represents the targeting of positive forces in the correct place for the greatest effect. Like the Sowulo rune, Teiwaz also promises successful achievement of our objectives. Teiwaz works especially well in legal matters. Here, however, success will come only if you are in the right to begin with. Travesties of justice do not happen when Teiwaz is empowered. |
