THE IBIS:

The Ibis is related to storks and herons.
The ibis was an important symbolic creature to the ancient Egyptians.
Thoth, god of the Moon and wisdom, was portrayed with an ibis-head. Thoth was the consort of Maat, goddess of truth. Because of his function as guardian of the Moon Gates, Thoth was believed to be a deity of magick, spells, writing, and record keeping. Ancient stories tell how Thoth hovered over the Egyptian people in the form of a sacred ibis, and taught them the occult arts and sciences.
The ibis was also sacred to the goddess Isis.

Superstitions

Medievil scholars thought the ibis cleaned out its bowels with its beak and was afraid of water.
