THE HIPPO:

The word hippopotamus is actually a Greek word meaning "river horse".
The Egyptian goddess Amenti was sometimes portrayed as a hippo, while the goddess of birth, Ta-Urt, was shown as an actual hippo standing on its back legs.
The hippo represented the Goddess in the water as a cow did on land.
A red hippo represented the evil god Set.
The Greeks and Romans knew the hippo as the beast of the Nile.
