Buying a Deck
Traditionally you are not meant to buy your own deck, but are meant to have it bought for you - the limitation of this is that the if you don't choose your own deck, how can you be sure its own you can work with?
Things to look for when buying a deck
Visual Appearance
You find the artwork pleasing to the eye and will be happy to look at the pictures repeatedly during the course of the readings
Visual Meanings
When looking at the artwork, you can see meanings in the card and the way it has been designed - the designs carry the meanings of the card.
Book/Leaflet
Whether the deck has an associated book or not, which explains why the imagery on the cards was chosen - this will help in the learning of the cards, as you will start to associated the imagery selected by the artist with the appropriate meanings
Card Size/Shape/Stock
Do the cards themselves feel comfortable in your hand, and are they an easy and comfortable size to shuffle? Is the card stock to thin?
Minor Arcana
If possible, try and get a deck that has actual pictures for the minor arcana, instead of a repeated motif, as this will make it easier to learn the forty meanings of the lower cards, as opposed to having to rely purely on strength of memory
