Banqueting
Sortly after having gone to Cardiff University, I got involved with a bunch of nutters and reprobates who were working under the title of the Cardiff Arthurian Society.
The society claimed to be there to promote understandings and interest in the myths and legends of Britian, specifically those relating to the Arthurian Genre.

The reality?

An excuse to get dressed up in flouncy dresses for the girls, armour or tabbards for the boys, and do lots of drinking and eating while scaring the general public!

A thoroughly worthwhile society dont you think?
Anyway, as I said a part of the remit was eating lots and drinking lots. This equated through to doing at least 1 large banquet a year for the society.
The Banquets were held in a variety of different places, including Caerphilly Castle, which at our last banquet there in 1995 we had just over 120 guests who were sat down, with around 20 "staff" doing all the serving
The Arthurian Society Banquets
The banquets done via the arthurian society were all done in a very light hearted lets have fun manner, but still working from an authentic basis.

The food produced would be made from authentic 12th and 13th entury recipes, and would be served in a series of returns.
A standard Banquet would have between 12-16 courses which would be served in 3-4 returns. A return would be a miniture meal in itself with a starter, a main meat dish, a main veg dish and a pudding.

Between each return would be a break where music, games, duels etc would be done while the food settled, befor the next return started to come out
Post Arthurian Society
Since having left Cardiff, the Arthurian Society has sadly gone the way of many "alternative" societies and has passed away into obscurity. This does not however, prevent a group of us getting together and having banquets every now and again.
The Surrealists is the name given to that group, who are generally people who got very much into the character's they had with the old society, and continued to do it.

Recently we have done banquets at
St Briavels Castle, near Tintern Abbey, where the whole building is hired for a 24 hr period during which time we banquet and have fun.
Pictures from the Banquet from the 18th of October 2003 will be posted shortly.
