Student Centered- "The only way to influence anyone is to show them what they want and how they can get it"- Dale Carnegie With this thought, the only way to open and engage the minds of students is to focus your teaching on their lives and their interests. I can't really say step by step how I will reach my students but I know my thought every day will be "how can I get this idea across to them meaningfully." I think this will have varying effects. When students start a class period or change subjects they need something to get them engaged in Math and because this subject is thought of with contempt I will make sure to have an activity they enjoy to gather them in.

Practice, Practice - I remember my high school Algebra 2 class and the curriculums method of having comprehensive homework, and however tough it was I learned more in that class than any other math class I've had. We will not abandon a topic once its been covered. I plan on having several opportunities thoughout the semester to have reviews, and on daily warm-ups I will put past lessons to measure their understanding of past content..

Cheers- "Sometimes we all just want to go where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came..." At this age people tend to feel very insecure and confused. I really hope my students will learn to think about others and put them first. Its a tough thing to live this way when others are mean and seemingly thoughtless, but having a place where they can go to for peace and security will be of help to them. I also believe that a confident student is a motivated student and if they feel comfortable and excited they will do well. To create this atmosphere I will have several getting to know you activities and daily opportunities to interact |
