Dottie Jones had won her house in a bitterly fought divorce two years ago. Dottie was having trouble maintaining it on her own and had spent many sleepless nights fretting over property taxes. The Jim French offer was a godsend.
Sitting to Dottie's right was Dr. Sam Mannering. Dr. Sam had initially been cool to the proposed deal. But over the past few weeks, as his foray into day trading grew more obsessive and his losses mounted, the million-plus cash offer for his cute little bungalow became more and more attractive.
Eunice Seibert, on the other hand, was not motivated by money. For 24 years, she had been trapped in a loveless marriage, her only consolation being her twin daughters. The girls were grown and married now and living within ten miles of each other in Florida. It would be a dream come true to take the nearly two million dollars and join them down there. If only it weren't for Bert.
Bert Seibert was the fly in everyone's ointment. At first, his refusal to sell had seemed like a bargaining ploy. But then, with the final offer on the table, Bert revealed that he was serious. He liked it here and wouldn't sell.
