It was 11 A.M., the day after the incident and Rose Evergreen sat in the police department waiting for her friend, Detective Jacob Brown. All she knew was that she skipped breakfast and her belly was growling reminding her of her mistake.

Rose, thank you for coming down. Jacob said coming from an unmarked door, I really appreciate your help with this.

No worries. she replied in the slang she picked up from her recent stay down under, What is the problem?

We have two cops with conflicting stories surrounding the death of a fire victim. Basically we have used all we can from the documents in the case, including the fire department reports and the preliminary findings of the medical examiner and the detectives.  But the reports from other departments only explained what happened after the incident, after that point is where the cops stories diverge. We are holding a disciplinary board where they will explain what happened, but I need you to find out why their stories conflict. Theyre both good cops, been on the force for years, and neither would ever lie.

So why is this a big deal? Why not just reprimand them?

Jacob sighed. " We're talking separation from the department. Maybe prosecution."

"For what?"

"They think that Figueroa left that man to die in the fire and that she made up her story later to cover up. To make it seem he was dead. And they think that Bennis added the diagnosis of his being dead later, after he realized that his story cast doubt on whether he was dead.
