To go from Avignon to Nice by bike you head off east up the Durance River. When it turns northward you branch off to the right to follow the Verdon River on eastward to Castellane. As you approach the town of Moustiers Ste. Marie mountains appear before you in a solid wall. The only way forward is to continue to follow the Verdon as it passes through them by way of a spectacular gorge.
