Camping in an Orchard

This was an interesting camp. It had been hot on the road and when we went to register in the camp office the first event was a free beer apiece. My heart warmed to this man. The camp was by an airfield and we had pedaled into a glider festival. All around were shrouded gliders being towed by jeeps and trucks. Gliders and parafoils were continually swooping overhead. The camp itself was formerly an orchard and you had to watch your step. Here and there squishy fruit was hiding in the grass.

This night was one of the very few with noisy neighbors. A couple of guys pulled up late in a Volks van and talked over wine far into the night. Revenge came in the morning. One of the things you do after breakfast is wipe the dew off the tent before taking it down. Of course you can also slap it with the towel but this makes a lot of noise... Whomp! Whomp! Their bleary wine soaked eyes peered over the sill of the Volks' windows wondering if the Second Front had started all over again.
