A Vet by Jason Gensburger
A black wall on a black night reflections of light shine through the night reflections of memories to painful to forget As a man stands tall looking at the wall He no longer sees the present but the past Maybe a battle where he lost a friend or where he killed the enemy who was no older then twelve All these memories he tried to hide from but the dreams brought him back everynight As reality sets in he thinks of the days when soldiers were honored and not critized not called baby killers, not mocked or have rocks thrown at them for doing what their country asked He finds fallen comrades names and says a prayer at each name to break down at, this man is no different He finds his brothers name As he saw it, the tears started rolling as he talks to the wall about memories only those two could remember As the night goes on his emotional pain for all these years feels like it has been lifted off him He came to the wall as a broken man he came to bring closure to that chapter he leaves feeling renewed, he leaves with hope he leaves with peace and knowing that for all these years he did the right thing he leaves with his wonds healing he leaves with his family It is a dark night as a man touches the wall .... |
