CHILD SAFETY: a guide for parents.
Did you know that in New Zealand, 13,000 children under five years of age are hospitalised each year because of injuries and poisoning? Many of these admissions are avoidable.
PRE-NATAL BURNS
Look at your heaters and fire place. You should never leave your baby alone in a room where there is a heater on or a fire burning. Once your baby can crawl, then you will need to put a guard around all heaters and fires. A guard is an essential safety item which you may have to budget for.
Now is also a good time to ask an electrician to turn the thermostat on your hot water cylinder down to ensure hot tap water is at 50 degrees C. If you have a wet-back, you will need to instal a temperature control valve to your hot water cylinder.
