285 theses Klingons
are a society that survives, that is all they do. How we raise our children,
how we use our resources, everything. There is nothing left except the
necessities of survival. To be a Spear the greatest honor is not to tell

in Kirk's time Klingons
are humans have struck an agreement. Because of that, the Klingons have
prospered despite being hemmed in. the Federation hemmed them in. Klingons
are combative and imperialistic. The cooperative nations of the Fed had
to establish a neutral zone as a buffer and allow the Klingons to prosper
as long as they don't encroach upon the rights of anybody else. there's
even an element of commerce. Kirk's Klingons have a martial culture, but
there's peace for everyone through our strength. Gradually they're doing
business outside their culture, and it works for everybody. on Vulcan Roth
was a treaty monitor. they live for more than just survival. He tried to
change the Klingon pattern. It came to disaster when his truce was betrayed.

E-C hit by fierce volley of photon torpedoes. Picard’s history reports
Narendra III destroyed, no E-C involvement. It is regrettable because a
Fed ship rescuing Klingon outpost might have averted 20 years of war. In
long war Fed has lost more than half of Starfleet to Klingons. The Klingons
regard honor above all else. If the crew of the E-C had died fighting for
the survival of a Klingon outpost, it would be considered a meaningful
act of honor by Klingon Empire. Their death could have prevented war. In

Dark Mirror
88 Mirror Worf, at
science console, no sash. The face wore even more frown than usual, and
it was graven deep, a settled look. Pain.
Mirror empathic Troi
security chief
Picard got the odd
feeling that this Worf might be more like the one he was familiar with
than the rest of these people.
177 Mirror Worf’s
eyes shifted to follow Picard, not a nervous look, but speculative.
Mirror LaForge used
his engineering superiority to express his personal contempt for Worf –
Get out of here, slave. Him? His people have lost any respect they might
have ever had.
Worf merely looked
at LaForge, his eyes surprisingly calm, and said nothing.
Worf – he’s quite
right. The calm way that Worf put it had some unspoken tragedy at the bottom
of it.
Worf – As for inferiors,
like myself, he shrugged, and there was no tone of bitterness about the
way he said it. To speak their minds to him would betray weakness. No one
here betrays weakness and lives long to tell about it.
Worf – When one comes
form a race that has submitted, there is no other way to be perceived by
most of the population of Starfleet, or any Starfleet ships. A species
that submits or is warred down is good only to hew wood and draw water.
Slaves at worst, a sort of tame curiosity at best. After their long war
with the Empire, out weaponed an outnumbered as they were, the survivors
of my people decided that life was sweeter than honor. By surrender, they
thought, they could at least purchase the lives of the noncombatants on
the Klingon homeworld. Perhaps they deluded themselves by thinking that
at some later date, resistance could begin again and honor could be regained;
their descendants would live to fight another day. But a delusion it was.
Their descendants have known nothing but the Empire for three generations
now. At this point in time I doubt whether the fighting will happen on
any other day at all. They have grown used to their position, perhaps wisely.
For who can resist the Empire? Not that there is much of anyone left to
try. My whole planet was discommended nearly a century ago now, when the
Earth fleets first beat our own spaceforce back into our own space, cutting
us off form our ally worlds and then destroying them. It was the last time
our fate was in our hands, and we threw it away.
Worf looked dreadfully
resigned, it was the face of a man discussing a cause lost before he was
born, and unlikely ever to be found. It hardly matters now. I serve and
am content to do that. And mostly I am left alone and that contents me
as well. But I thank you for your show of concern. It is very kind of you.
The resignation and
the pain again it was almost more than Picard could bear.
Picard could barely
imagine the Klingons a conquered race, what kind of power did the Empire
have to reduce them to this?
285 Picard realized
that Mirror Worf knew, Worf looked back and never said a word. He doesn’t
betray Picard to Troi.
Picard – How did you
know?
Worf – Your manner.
Your courtesy. They way you spoke to me earlier, taken together with the
fact that you cared at all about a dead bodyguard. These have not been
typical of your past behavior. Worf smiled grimly. Unlike the others, I
can see the unlikely when it is under my nose, I would not have survived
long without learning how to notice things.
In your universe,
what has happened to my people?
Picard smiled somberly
– They are a mighty empire, and our allies. Oh, we were enemies once; there
were times when we had territorial ambitions that clashed, and our fears
of each other’s strengths blinded us for a long time to the ways we might
help each other. But the will to peace, and some happy accidents, brought
us together at last. Now the Klingon Empire is prospering, and its people
are a noble and honorable race. Nothing is more important to them.
Worf nodded – So it
was once with us. But not for a long time now.
291 Worf was looking
around at them, and Deanna got a brief mental image of a hungry man standing
outside a window full of food. Fellowship. Honor. This would be a universe
worth fighting for.
Picard – We think
so, but it’s not too late for yours, Mr. Worf. If you and your people can
be ready for it.
Worf’s eyes gleamed
– A long time we have dreamed that things might somehow become better.
But they were only dreams, no one ever took them seriously or did anything
about them. however, to know that the dream is a reality, somewhere, anywhere.
Picard – The dream
is alive. Maybe in 70 or 80 years we might put our noses back in to see
how you are getting on. Or, if news of this technique for travel between
congruent universes gets around, perhaps the Klingons will. I suspect that
would make an interesting visit.

son of Mogh, whose parents died in Romulan raid on Narendra III with he
was three, has spent his life memorizing Selan's face as the one responsible.
he wasn't actually responsible, but he was there, and that will suffice.
if the other Klingons in the raiding party were making that much noise,
than the likelihood was that all of the Romulans and Cardassians were dying,
or dead, or wishing they were dead.
p23 the Klingon raiding
party on Rombus III rescues the human survivor William Riker. new young
Klingon Worf leading systematic raids on Klingon outposts over the last
year or so, something of a firebrand, stirring up the Klingon Council,
trying to get them to strike at Romulans preemptively, wherever and whenever.
Worf's got a crew of Klingons who agree with him, his own little strike
force. officially the Council is disapproving of their actions. unofficially
esthetic. these are Klingons, if they don't secretly approve of what one
of their own is doing, Worf would not still be alive
p92 Worf calls Deanna
Troi Riker's home on Betazed to tell her husband William Riker is alive,
having been rescued from Romulans on Rombus III. Lwaxana thought Worf was
extremely rude to her. the Klingons penetrating gaze disconcerts Deanna.
William Riker wears Klingon clothes after his rescue. Worf takes him to
Terminus, to be picked up by the Enterprise-D. there is a Klingon freighter
in proximity to Betazed that could be diverted on Worf's authority immediately
to pick Deanna up to rendezvous with the Enterprise. The Klingon freighter
departed from its detour to Betazed promptly one hour and 10 minutes later.
p174 young Tommy Riker
didn't think much of the Klingon freighter - beds with no mattresses, inedible
food. Tommy has had a dream, where Worf was killing his father William
Riker
p184 Teffla, the Proconsul
on Terminus, finds Worf utterly paranoid, he sees conspiracies everywhere.
he insists on double and triple checking identities of all key personnel,
he's constructed an elaborate password system he acts as if he expects
attack at any moment. Worf has been guarding Riker as if his own life depends
on it.
p185 Worf makes sure
Riker bathes, as his stench was considerable even for a human. Riker looks
at Worf with a sort of animal cunning that looked so crafty that Worf felt
his opinion of Riker going up a few notches. If a Klingon tells you that
something is preferred, then you damned well better prefer it that way,
too. Worf is on the fast track for the Klingon High Council. Politics in
the Empire are often incendiary. The Klingon-Federation alliance has been
an exceptionally beneficial one. We all want to keep it that way. Worf,

I’ve garnered is irrelevant.
Considering the past
incendiary nature of Klingon-Federation relations
Worf believes the
Klingon Empire will never be secure until all its enemies are destroyed,
and that the Romulans are planning major incursions over the next against
the Feds, and are already engaging in covert activities to split the Klingon
Empire. Anyone could be a Romulan agent

p273 Worf came to
a decision in a matter of seconds. His hand was at his belt and a
moment later he’d snapped open the side blades of a d’k’tagh knife.
p278 had the Enterprise-C

then the war might have been averted. Or if the ship had been destroyed
in the fight, that too would have been something the Klingons might have
respected

ease, flipped the knife from one hand to the other and charged again. Worf
roared in anger. Boxing a Klingon’s ears causes tremendous pain. Worf swung
a gloved hand and connected.
Worf pulled the dagger
out of himself, which was a mistake, because at least when it was in it
was plugging the wound. Worf seemed oblivious to, or simply was ignoring,
his injury.
p288 Riker, on his
own, might have been able to outrun the wounded Klingon. Worf stalked down
the corridor, he ignored the blood, ignored the pain. It was all secondary
to his overwhelming drive his dagger at the ready, Worf decided on a full-blown
direct frontal attack. With a roar he charged at the doors, he hit the
ground, rolled so that any possible phaser blasts would pass over his head
and came up ready for anything. With a furious snarl he started to move
though the maze, vowing greater and greater revenge with every step

Tensions with the
Klingons were continuing to rise. Bajorans took death of Sisko as sign
that the Fed wouldn’t be able to protect them from the Klingons. Bajor
entered mutual defense pact with Cardassians. The Klingons didn’t like
that at all. If war broke out with the Klingons, DS 9 was going to be on
the front line. Over a year passes.

So many intruders
crossed over into mirror universe that Klingons and Cardassians established
strict protocols to execute all such intruders at once. At least twenty.
Mirror Kirk had convinced
Starfleet that a secret treaty existed between the Halkans and the Klingon
Confederacy, so if the Empire move against that planet it would give the
Klingons the excuse they needed to declare war. Within 5 years Kirk was
head of Starfleet, assassinated Androvar Drake, became Emperor Tiberius.
Intendant Spock engineered a bloodless coup, Tiberius escaped.

exceptional circumstances. Tiberius was able to go to leaders of both groups,
convince them to follow him to reclaim the Terran Empire. The most brutal
war in the history of the known galaxy. World after world joined the Alliance.
Its only purpose to erase Earth and Vulcan from the universe. The battle
of Wolf 359 lasted three days. The combined Klingon/Cardassian Armada faced
what remained of the Imperial Starfleet, 390 ships of the Terran Empire
were lost. For four days a convoy of Klingon battlecrusiers did nothing
but fire their disruptors into the Great Lakes of North America, boiling
them almost dry, forever changing the atmosphere of the Northern Hemisphere.
After the fall of earth Tiberius was never seen again. Spock negotiated

Tiberius wore was of Klingon design, smoothly sculpted to depict the heroic
musculature of Kahless himself, dull metallic finish so deeply red it verged
on black, built for easy of motion and the speed and grace and intimacy
of hand-to-hand combat. Rounded jewels and bloodstones were embedded on
the arms and across the chest. To any other warrior of Qo’noS they told
the story of the wearer’s victories in battle.
To any denizen of
the mirror universe it identified that wearer as the monster who had caused
the deaths of untold worlds and civilizations, the madman who had lost
an empire and consigned the people of Vulcan and Earth to abject slavery

The ensuring megastorm had sterilized the entire world in hours. Flesh

The Empire was destroyed.
The Empire destroyed itself. Project Looking Glass. The Klingons were so
proud of it. while the Fed fought a holding battle against the Ascendancy,
the Empire was to prepare a safe haven from the destruction of the universe,
in another universe. In the Mirror Universe the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance
was in disarray and easy to overcome once the Prime Directive was suspended.
The total population was much lower.
It is not like my
people to plan for defeat.
The original intention
was to send a Klingon fleet into the Mirror Universe, fight its way to
Bajor, then reappear in our universe behind Ascendancy’s lines.
Worf grunted – A worthy
deception. It sounds like the work of General Martok.
Chancellor Martok.
The first exploratory
and recon missions were flawless, every replicator in the Empire and most
of those in the Fed were requisitioned to create transporter pads to transport
warriors and goods to the other side. That effort took two years. The fleet,
the Armada, moved out from the Empire in the Mirror Universe, heading for
Bajor, while in our universe, to counter any suspicions, Earth entered
into negotiations with the Grigari. Grigari attacked earth.
When word reached
the Mirror Universe that the Grigari had attacked here before the Klingons
could attack there, the fleet turned around to come to Earth’s defense.
In that state of confusion as its mission changed, a second Grigari
fleet attacked there as well.
Enormous complexes
of transporters were on all the major worlds of the Empire. The Grigari
used those transporters to move weapons from Mirror Universe into ours,
weapons which detonated in place and tore apart worlds, rendered atmospheres
unbreathable and collapsed entire ecosystems. The Grigari had known exactly
what was planned.

B’E’s daughter, a Starfleet ensign, reports to Janeway, she’s been working
on project for six months.
Adm. Janeway visits
planet location of House of Korath, Ens. Paris and two Klingon males greet
her. One Klingon complains in Klingon that Janeway’s demeanor was disrespectful.
Ens. Paris calls him a p’takh and tells him if he didn’t show Janeway more
respect Paris would break his arm.
Janeway – You’re your
mother’s daughter.
Korath has modified
a Cardassian disruptor to emit a nadion pulse.
Janeway wants to take
chronodeflector device in exchange for all the trouble she went to to get
Korath seat on council. Korath refuses. She leaves.
Janeway comes back
Soldier announces
her – [cc] mak-tah hoon Janeway ghuy’cha.
Janeaway has reconsidered
She’ll give him the
shield emitter but not until she’s inspected the chronodeflector device
Korath’s offering, to make sure it’s genuine.
Korath – Are you questioning
my honor?
Janeway – If you were
honorable, you wouldn’t have changed the terms of our agreement.
Soldier guards operate
various pieces of Korath’s equipment, but they’re slow on the uptake and
the draw and Janeway makes off with chronodeflector device.
Korath – You’ll pay
for your deceit, ghuy’cha! and the House of Korath won’t rest until you’ve
drown in your own blood.
Two large Klingon
ships attack Janeway’s shuttle, Captain Harry Kim comes to her aid with
the Rhode Island. Voyager closes the rift on the Klingon vessels.

11 B – It always makes
Tom nervous when I have to tap my Klingon blood. The High Council asked
a lot of questions. I told them the truth with a Klingon twist. I told
them my beloved former Captain who saved my life many times in glorious
battle would consider it an honor to submit Korath’s House for consideration.
I may just be the Fed liaison, but I’d like to think I have some influence
Ens. Miral Paris,
daughter of Tom and B.
37 a Klingon fortress
on a crag bound moon. Few humans allowed to pass within such monolithic
repositories of survival and tradition. Klingons were volatile and not
particularly resourceful, so when they found something that worked they
stuck with it. such was the case with rock shelters. They still used them.
Tell tale odor of synthetic rock.
Miral welcomes Janeway
firmly and loudly, to establish beyond doubt that Janeway was to be accepted
here.
Klingon – Guv’ ha
gor! Nu’Tuq mal!
Miral – P’Tak! Gaht
bek’cha tuq mal gun’mok!
The Klingon fixed
his hands into a set of claws at his sides but otherwise made no other
threats. Miral skewered him to some silent promise. Miral beamed but managed
not to smile. That might have been taken by the Klingons as a sign of weakness.
Miral has been working
on this for 6 months. Possessiveness over an assignment went along with
Klingon nature.
Few people truly understand
the tenuous nature of dealing with Klingons more than those with Klingon
blood, Klingon rage surging through their veins. The surge of temper, of
passions and determination, involuntary drives of single mindedness were
sometimes indescribable. Miral embraced the mystique of her ancestry.
For a species that
considered themselves rebellious, Klingons did all they possibly could
to look alike.
Old man Klingon image,
long gray hair, uncombed, brow ridge that got more prominent as Klingon’s
aged, body armor and uncomfortable clothing, sour attitude.
At the side of the
screen Klingon text scrolled ceaselessly.
Janeway held herself
very still. Klingons might take any twitch as a signal that they had some
advantage psychological or otherwise or any movement as sign of tension.
They might interpret unease in any number of ways that would work against
her.
Raggedy Klingon Empire
Korath wanted to be
able to look down on all the other Klingons from the only pinnacle that
meant anything to him.
The Klingons here
already? Korath had more influence than he thought. Of course Janeway’d
just put him on the High Council which hadn’t hurt his ability to muster
fire power.
Korath – The House
of Korath wouldn’t rest until you’ve been drown in your own blood.
Janeway had dealt
with so many aliens and such varied psychologies in the Delta Quad that
handling Klingons was a picnic.
Even a hothead like
Korath knew better than to chase her.
A Klingon temporal
deflector.
55 the Klingons roared
in blazing. No talk, no threats, no deals. Two Klingon disruptor streams
crossed in space and mutually detonated. The Klingons tried again to triangulate
on her and ended up blasting each other’s disruptor streams. Once they
almost raked each other wing to wing. After the near collision they paused
firing for a few moments, trying to get her into their scopes without boxing
each other in.
Janeway – Well, Korath,
when you hold a grudge you really hold it high. All I did was bruise your
pride. You have your payment in full. You would never have attained the
position you have now if not for my influence.
Korath – You and you
alone make a threat to my people.
Klingons do not dance.
Korath obviously wasn’t
a skilled battle leader or he wouldn’t have been so easily distracted.
the lead ship wasn’t giving the second ship a firing pattern. Whoever was
in charge of the second ship was smarter or maybe just more experienced
than Korath. The second ship anticipates Janeway’s next two moves and opened
fire.
Harry and Rhode Island
disable one Klingon ship, and with a bitter strafe roars after the second.
