Klingon and Federation ships have made incursions into Tholian Shedai Sector
Klingons expressed an unabashed interest in the Shedai Sector, aka Gonmog Sector and Taurus Reach
Political and military stalemate that currently existed between Klingons and Federation
When Klingons came to usurp other planets, their tenacity rivaled even that of the Tholian Assembly
Those caught up in such action would find life to be unpleasant at best
Already a few minor skirmishes Klingons vs Tholians. Tholians dispatched to the region to counter the Empire
Tholians formidable telepathic abilities
Gonmog Sector has marked upswing in ship traffic. Klingons were sending numerous ships into the area, hopping from system to system and planting flags of the Empire on a number of worlds. Most uninhabited, a few contained sentient population which the Klingons had conquered. Sensor drones dispatched into the Gonmog Sector by battlecruisers. Four skirmishes in three days between Tholian and Klingon vessels. Each isolated, one on one. Each time Tholians retreated.

Palgrenax system, local name, 4 planets, only one inhabited, pre-industrial culture. Klingons have laid claim. Morqla, male, Governor of Palgrenax. On Palgrenax, a large number of natives died at Klingon hands. Brief native insurrection. Pelgrenax collapsed in upon itself. All on planet died. Tholians blame Klingons for unleashing some form of superweapon on Pelgrenax. Klingons level similar allegations toward Tholians
The resource-deprived Klingon Empire
In the case of Klingons, the exhilaration of heading once more into battle
Klingon warship design employed by the Empire for more than a century. Orblike primary hull at the forefront of a long narrow boom extending from vessel's angular main drive section. Warp nacelles mounted to the underside of the hull gave the cruiser an illusion of menace power and speed. The well-worn design.
Klingons aren't subtle in their battle tactics. They don't sneak around. They don't cower in shadows. Never afraid to take credit for a victory
Klingon politicians could be fastidious in how they chose to comport themselves, switching between slavish devotion to their warrior caste's honor and the more nuanced duplicitous nature that seemed to characterize diplomacy
Turag's usual expression of annoyed boredom
In this time personal honor and discipline seemed to be out of favor with many Klingon warriors
Chancellor of the High Council had expressly forbidden any vessel operating in the Gonmog Sector from taking aggressive action against Federation or Tholian interests unless in self defense. It was an uncharacteristic position for Chancellor to take.
Reyes experienced with Klingons
Two Tholian small ships ambush one Klingon ship, exchange weapons fire. Klingons destroy one Tholian ship. Other Tholian retreats. Battle broken off, possible detection of cloaked Romulan vessel. Klingons search for sensor reading but don't find it.
Klingon commanders are notoriously ill-tempered and impatient. They want an enemy to reveal itself and announce its desire to do battle. They are not in the habit of sitting idle and waiting for a ghost to appear
Qo'noS pre-industrial 8 or 9 centuries ago
Some instances of attempts by jeghpu'wI' to overthrow their Klingon conquerors had been successful, for which songs had been sung as Klingon warriors celebrated their tenacity and courage of their enemies in battle.

Federation by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens
P11 Kirk recalls his son David died with a Klingon knife above his heart
P64 the first contact with the Klingon Empire in 2218, only 57 years after the Federation?s birth, had been a trail by fire. Through all the dark conflict with the Klingons that followed, until the rapprochement of the Khitomer Conference of 2293, all-out war did not break out between the Empire and the Federation
P93 [2267] Spock enters Kirk?s quarters, as direct as a Klingon
P95 [2366] Worf at tactical; the powerful Klingon moves his fingers over the consoles with the grace of a concert pianist, reports weapons status, handles sensors, hailing frequencies
P128 [2366] Worf catches on and replies heartily when Picard negotiating with Ferengi. Picard frowns at his overacting
P130 [2366] Worf had suggested sending boarding party to stolen Romulan vessel, capture Ferengi crew, offer them immunity from extradition to get location of Borg artifact, he had offered to lead the boarding party. His opinion is that they are being led into a trap. Troi comments that Worf thinks that about everything. Worf counters that it is his job to be prepared. The Ferengi are an exceptionally tricky species.
P133 [2366] Whenever Worf and Riker agree on a course of action, Picard is certain he has consensus on the bridge
P164 [2267] Question whether Klingons or Romulans have capability to enter Starfleet?s computer system without detection. Inconceivable
P181 [2366] Worf knew it was a trap, as second Romulan ship decloaks, handles hailing frequencies
P185 [2366] Worf goes to examine Borg artifact on Romulan hanger deck with Riker and Data and LaForge
P189 [2366] Worf allows Picard to transport to the Romulan vessel as it is secure
P227 [2366] Picard hopes one day the Federation will enjoy the same relationship with the Romulan Empire as it does today with the Klingon Empire
P247 [2267] Klingons takes over Federation spaceliner City of Utopia Planita. Know of fabled terran mercy. Kirk considers there is only one thing Klingons understand, and the Enterprise is the ship to deliver it.
P248 [2267] Kirk has never run across a Klingon who liked to talk. Klingons don?t negotiate, just stalling for time.
P249 [2267] A fast Orion ship could make it to Klingon space from where they are in a month. Orions could be working with the Klingons. The Klingon level of warp technology is on par with the Federation?s.
P251 [2267] Kirk leaves Admiral Kabreigney to negotiate [stall] with the nameless bloodthirsty Klingon.
P252 [2267] by transporting known Orion pirates the liner has been used in crimes against the Empire, and the Empire must have it for justice to be served. The Klingon claims cover story of Planitia smuggling Orion criminals convicted in the Klingon Empire to safety in the Federation. Klingon seems delighted to negotiate with a fleet admiral, maybe kidnap her.
P255 [2267] four Klingons, six Orions, on liner
P256 [2267] Klingon commander rants as liner comes apart
P258 [2267] three top of the line Klingon D7 battle cruisers arrive, and open fire, commanded by Adrik Thorsen
P264 [2366] Worf shocked expression when enveloped in Romulan cloaking field, he reports he believes the Enterprise is cloaked
P266 [2366] Worf knows what Romulan mercy is like, better to die a warrior?s death in battle.
P268 Worf immediately obeys Picard?s order to prepare to ram the Romulans, without question.
P285 [2267] the Klingons, for all their barbarity, would find Earth?s 21st  century Optumun ideals abhorrent for their lack of honor
P285 [2267] the Klingons jam every subspace frequency so Enterprise can?t call for help, while asking for additional orders from their command center
P286 [2267] oily skin, black beard and mustache ? a Klingon, objectionable from the moment he offered Cochrane live gagh
P287 [2267] Federation has yet to find common ground with the Klingons, finishing negotiations now for joint colony on Nimbus III.
p299 pu?DaH!  ghuH  baH!
P299 Vagh . . . loS . . . wej . . .
P305 [2267] Enterprise has big advantage not facing top Klingon warriors ? smuggler?s crew behind Thorsen
P355 [2366] Worf leaps to free Picard from Thorsen controlled Data, is shoved back and flips over his tactical station
P365 [2267] the D7s were not built for the stress the Enterprise can take, designed for combat
P379 [2367] Worf takes hand from firing controls ? refuses to follow Thorsen?s orders. In the body of Data Thorsen throws himself at Worf, Worf gets one powerful blow to android?s head, then he is smashed sideways into a control console, which explodes. Troi, Wesley and Dr. Crusher rush to his unconscious form
P395 [2366] Worf leans over his tactical board, reporting course even as Crusher puts healing emitters on head wound
P399 [2366] Worf?s voice filled with disbelief and awe reports Enterprise 1701 Captain Kirk hailing them
P410 [2366] Worf knows the original Enterprise exploded. Something his father taught him. All Federation versions make the point that there was no loss of life when Kirk destroyed original Enterprise, but that is not true. There was a loss of life, a Klingon boarding party. The Federation and Klingons were deadly enemies at the time of the incident, and at the time Admiral Chekov?s and other books were written. Worf?s father taught him that once we were such great enemies that the Federation did not consider the deaths of Klingons to be the same as the deaths of humans. The story from the Klingon side, Klingons died in explosion.
Worf [and Wesley] save the day.
Crisis on Vulcan by John Vornholt
P5 The Marathan System, four inhabited worlds feuding with each other. Scientists on Shakir had developed a primitive form of warp drive, and had encountered hostile Klingons uncomfortably close to them in space. All the enemy factions in the system now had a new foe to dread. The Marathan system applied to the Federation for membership, and now, after three years, internal  hostilities resolved.
P14 the Marathan system is a real weak spot in Fed border with the Klingon Empire. Inclusion in the Federation will make the whole Federation much more secure.
Though Hell Should Bar the Way, Enterprise Logs

no mistaking ominous outline of Klingon battlecruiser deceptively fragile in appearance, bulbous prow separated from aft warp engines by single tapered concourse. D-6 possessed formidable shields, comparable firepower. As Fed had learned the hard way at Donatu V.
Klingons first encountered few decades ago. Already proven to be as much a threat to Fed outward expansion as Roms before them.
Klingon Emperor would welcome failure of isolated Fed colony like Tarsus IV. Mysterious fungus might have been covertly planted by Klingons. lord knows, they?re ruthless and cunning enough.

If there was a Klingon word for mercy April has never heard of it
Imperial Klingon attack cruiser Kut?luch Captain Kor could not believe his good fortune. A Fed starship alone and vulnerable. Youthful only recently appointed to first command, eager to make a name for himself. Kor had named ship balefully after assassination blade.
Dim purple light the color of spilled Klingon blood. Metal grill work of ceiling. Silver and black uniform, golden sash, proclaimed status as ship?s undisputed commander. Assesses crew?s readiness for battle. Warriors hungry for battle. Scent of their courage. Musty pressured atmosphere. Impatient to look upon face of enemy. All humans soft and spineless. Kor knew, at least compared to Klingons. April reminds Kor of middle aged librarian. He could sense his crew?s dashed hopes for a glorious battle. The human didn?t even have a decent beard. No threats or challenges, no boasts of one?s prowess and weapons in April?s greeting. Didn?t these humans even know how to address a worthy opponent? Kor speaks human?s barbaric tongue, the better to demonstrate efficiency of Klingon military intelligence.
Turn back at once or be destroyed. Kor would have preferred asking for unconditional surrender but orders from General Korrd were clear. Kor?s first priority was to ensure no Fed ship approached Tarsus IV, not to capture them. Kahless willing.
Pedantically as any hair-splitting Vulcan sophist
Mercy is for weaklings
Here in the untamed reaches of the galaxy you humans must learn all true authority is a matter of arms and the will to use them. Kor longs for battle, not intellectual debate
Our disruptors are locked on your vessel

Kor was the scion of a noble house. He knew that his enemies, and any Klingon with a drop of ambition in his veins had enemies, whispered that he attained his rank through family connections and not by virtue of abilities and valor. Defeating the Enterprise would silence his critics for good.
The security of the entire fleet could be threatened if Klingon engineers were able to probe the captured Enterprise for technological secrets.

P52 Ensign Spock ? No.
P52 Cadet McCoy ? usually they keep to themselves, unless they want to cause trouble, that is.

P71 Klaag, the Klingon, ordered by Joe Swingle to get on the communications web, find out when the next transport comes through, and see if he can dig up a passenger manifest that?s accurate.
P71 We?ve been kidnapped by this Joe Swingle and his crew, who evidently work for a Klingon commander. The Klingon commander hopes to capture Richard Daystrom for his computer innovations, then hold him for ransom. Swingle wants his cut.
P77 These mercenaries are armed, dangerous, and they are working for the Klingons, so anything that happens here might be a powder keg. Whatever we do might explode into a diplomatic nightmare for the Federation.
P85 I want those Starfleet kids found, Zenoviev. Take your Klingon lapdog and find them!
P86 Swingle to Zenoviev [the red-haired man] ? You are truly a hammerhead. Do one thing, and tell Klaag do the other thing! Can?t you even think of that?
P86 Swingle knew Zenoviev would find that gargoyle Klaag, and the two of them would argue for twenty minutes about which one would do which job. Idiots. Morons. Hammerheads.
P87 it was perfectly simple. Rig a tractor beam, pluck off Richard Daystrom and his driver, put a knife to the driver?s throat to make Daystrom give up his new computer program, then kill the driver and ransom Daystrom back to Starfleet. The Klingons get their credits, I get my cut, and it?s all over!
P96 Hey, Joe! Klaag says to tell you all the liquid fuel?s been spilled out! Somebody punched holes in every single drum!
P96 they had taken more than a week to rig the tractor beam emission tower

P120 one of Starfleet?s oldest enemies had breached Federation space. Perhaps it was just one crazy renegade Klingon commander doing business with Swingle, and not the whole Klingon Empire behind this.
P120 a full sized enemy cruiser. They have long-range weapons.
P122 illustration of Klingon ship
P123 Kirk ? we?re being pursued by a Klingon vessel. Do you read?
P123 Christopher Pike on Enterprise ? We read you. We?ve warned off the Klingons and they?re moving out of Federation space. They?ve no stomach for taking on this ship!
P124 Kirk to Pike ? You?ll want to arrange to pick up the other mercenaries. They?re marooned on Atlantis Outpost. And they were dealing with the commander of that Klingon ship.
P124 Pike to Kirk ? We?ll hand the matter over to Federation Intelligence and let them confront the Empire about this espionage

  Conflicting Natures, Enterprise Logs
The Klingon battlecruiser had attacked the Enterprise without warning, punching  through the shields and overloading half its command consoles before Pike and crew could return fire. Battle raged for half an hour before they managed to destroy the Klingon ship with a salvo of photon torpedoes. Klingons now building their own Empire to challenge the Federation. Every new race could become an ally or an enemy. Gamma Gemini system, 4th planet very earth like, colony whom Starfleet wanted to reassure regarding their protection from Klingon incursions.
A single Klingon warship attacks a group of 6 small colony ships, fires phasers in search of a weak spot. Klingon cruiser arms photon torpedoes. Bulbous control pod in front, wing shaped body. Klingon ship explodes under attack from Pike and Enterprise. The Klingons had asked for it.

Captain's Table Where Sea Meets Sky by Jerry Oltion
P4 when Fleet Captain Christopher Pike first enters the Captain?s Table bar, his attention is focused on the Klingon woman on a stool at the bar. There are unusual bony ridges on her forehead, wide full lips with enigmatic grin, ample cleavage revealed by her traditional open-chested battle garb. The Klingon Empire and the Federation had been in conflict for nearly 50 years. All-out war seemed imminent. Pike figures she has to be a member of a peace delegation who had snuck out of hotel to check out earth without a chaperone breathing down her neck. Maybe she thinks she can seduce someone in the bar and learn military secrets from them. She had undoubtedly recognized Pike the moment he walked in ? a fleet captain would be well known to the enemy. Well, Pike would keep his eye on her, too. One of the other patrons was no doubt a Secret Service agent assigned to tail her but it wouldn?t hurt to back them up.
Pike recognizes A Klingon bat?leth?s curved blade buried deep into wall of bar, dusty.
Drunk seaman Nowan states his wife and son were tortured to death on prison colony Rura Penthe. The name makes the Klingon woman flinch but it means nothing to Pike. On Rura Penthe prisoners dig for nitrates and phosphates for gunpowder.
P20 the Klingon woman listens to Pike?s tale, drinking Warnog from a pewter tankard. She smiles at Pike, her pointed teeth making it both an invitation and a challenge. Typical Klingon. Pike glances at her displayed cleavage. If that was typical Klingon men were happier at home than they seemed to be in public. The Klingon woman scowls when Pike looks at a felinoid woman, Prrghh. That too was typical. Klingons hated anything soft or delicate or beautiful. No, it wasn?t hate they felt, it was disdain. Klingons valued strength and honor above all else, and had little respect for anyone who didn?t feel likewise. Pike wonders what had happened to the Klingon?s forehead, some kind of accident? It looked pretty serious. That looked like ridges of bone just under the surface.
P35 Pike sees the Klingon woman out of the corner of his eye and suddenly realizes she was listening intently to his every word. Of course she would ? details of how to cripple a Federation starship would be worth a fortune on her homeworld, Of course we?ve upgraded our shield technology to prevent that from happening again, he said loudly. She grinned at him with her pointed teeth, Of course.
The Klingon woman walked over from the bar with two more snifters of Saurian brandy and set them down. I noticed you were out, she said, picking up Pike?s empty glass and the pieces of the seaman?s broken one. She didn?t reply to their thank yous, merely turned and walked back to the bar.
Pike take his glass and sniffs it. No detectable poisons. Of course that left a couple thousand undetectable ones she might have dropped in, but he didn?t think the odds were very high. She wouldn?t risk an interplanetary incident just to kill a fleet captain. She was probably hoping to get him drunk and learn more about the Enterprise?s weaknesses.
P61 the Klingon woman considers Vulcans not giving into emotion a cowardly trait. Her lips pulled back in a snarl.
Passion is a part of life, deny it and you deny the very core of your being. There is no honor in fighting dumb animals with nuclear weapons. A Klingon would pit himself against them on more equal terms as a test of his honor.
The Klingon woman snarls, a sound like a lion about to pounce, at Nowan?s opinion that men who need to kill things to prove themselves have no honor, and responds What would you know of honor, prisoner? A Klingon would not have allowed himself to be captured alive.
The two stare at one another for a moment, fire smoldering behind their eyes. Everyone else in the bar has frozen in place. the Klingon woman eyes the felinoid  woman with open disdain until surprised by a tiny hand phaser pointed straight at her head. With a scream that chilled the blood of everyone in the bar the Klingon woman leaped from her stool, picked up a chair and swung it around in an arc that knocked the phaser from the other woman?s grip. Disarming her opponent wasn?t enough, she brought the chair back around for a blow aimed at the cat-woman?s head. Pike pulls his phaser from his boot the moment the Klingon woman leaps from her stool and shouts Drop it while she is raising the chair for the second swipe. The Klingon didn?t even hesitate. The chair continues in a swift arc toward the felinoid?s head. Pike fires as soon as he realizes she wasn?t going to stop, and vaporizes the chair. He could have stunned the Klingon, but if she was part of a peace delegation that could have terrible consequences. She whirled around to face him, her face full of rage. Pike holds his phaser steady and says calmly Emotion or logic? Your move. The Klingon woman held her eyes on him a moment longer and Pike was just beginning to think he might have to stun her after all when she threw back her head and laughed. Her voice rattled the bottles on the shelves, her long black hair swung from side to side.
Well done, Captain. I would welcome the chance to spar with you hand to hand.
Goes over to cat-woman?s phaser and crushes it beneath her heavy black boots. Then she picks it up and carried the pieces back to the cat-woman. Here?s your phaser, dear, she said sweetly. She walks back to the bar, takes a long drink from her tankard of Warnog, and sits down at the end of the bar nearest Pike.
Her name is Hompaq. Typical Klingon name to go with her typical Klingon bravado.
P77 Pike figures Hompaq just waiting for the chance to stick a knife in his ribs.
Hompaq bared her teeth at him, reached down to scratch her bare midriff.
If she was mad at Pike she would have let him know before this, but she never uses the same tactic twice, it?s bad form. If she was angry at Pike she would do something disgustingly personal and very painful. Of course, to a Klingon, that?s practically indistinguishable from making love.
Pike wonders if she is coming on to him. Impossible. Wasn?t it?
Hompaq - Try some Warnog, it?ll grow hair on your chest.
Pike ? hasn?t worked on you yet
Hompaq ? Ha! Very good human, I think I like you. She slapped him on the back hard enough to make his teeth rattle.
There was a time when Pike would have welcomed the chance to wipe the bar with her. Nothing would please Hompaq more than a good brawl.
P92 Hompaq asks what a tyrannosaur is. They sound like they would make interesting pets.
Hompaq comments that the violent history of the Devernians no doubt strengthened them beyond measure. If humans had lived when the tyrannosaurs did, you would have a more adventurous spirit. That the Devernian society was in collapse shows they did not have a warrior?s heart. A moral failing worth damning an entire race for.
Hompaq reminds Nowan that the titans in Pike?s story don?t have knees.
P109 humanity has always had its share of stay-at-homes, and so do the Klingons, or your homeworld would be a ghost planet.
Hompaq says that?s not necessarily true, we could all come and go.
Pike has seen Klingons aplenty.
Hompaq is from a different era than Pike, she could dance on his grave, if she could get to it. She knows he was taken to Talos IV and is buried there.
Pike is strangely attracted to Hompaq. That heavily convoluted forehead wasn?t normal for Klingons. At least not Klingons of his era. Not the result of as accident, either. Hompaq must be from far enough in the future that her race had actually evolved into this form. Or maybe this was a cosmetic thing, a personal choice she had encoded into her own genes for amusement. Or for battle. Pike would hate to butt heads with her in a dark alley.
P129 Pike feels less nervous standing next to the Klingon woman now. The fact that Hompaq knew about Talos IV argues that she knew something about him. He wondered what else she knew. Hompaq says the Galactic Barrier has been breached a few times, but always at high cost. There?s a lot of nothing on the other side. A Starfleet ship will find itself in the Delta Quadrant. Hompaq doesn?t remember the name. We could turn the Captain?s Table bar into a great big traveling trans-chrono anomalizer, or we can stop fishing for information and enjoy our times here. No ?but?. Innocent people are always hurt. You stop this disaster and something else will happen to somebody else. Maybe the ship in the Delta Quadrant will discover something you need to know. It?s an infinite regression. Galactic Barrier, warp drive, Delta Quadrant, Borg, Q, Trelane, tribbles ? she scowled in distaste ? and so on indefinitely. She picked up the brandy and took a sip, then scowled almost as badly as she had over the word tribble. We can ignore all that and enjoy each other?s company without giving ourselves indigestion. Pike smells the oily, almost petrochemical odor of Warnog. He refuses a taste. Smart man, Hompaq says and invites him to arm wrestle. When Pike accepts she says You?re not as smart as I thought, with a sneer. Her skin is warmer and softer than Pike expected. Apparently being a Klingon warrior didn?t mean you had to mistreat yourself. Hompaq lunged so quickly Pike?s knuckles nearly rapped the bar but he recovers and they struggle evenly. Their bodies start to shake with the effort, including Hompaq?s cleavage, which she increases with a laugh until Pike is distracted and she wins.
A warrior should learn to keep his mind on the battle.
The bar has Warnog on tap, Klingons must come here fairly often. Or Hompaq drinks too much.
Pike invites Hompaq to sit at his table. She takes the chair with its back to the room, but she turns it so she sat sideways to the table.
P148 Hompaq is impressed that Pike went back against titans. Pike unaware of cloaking device. It blocks visual, electromagnetic, even subspace emissions. Very useful in sneaking up on something.
Hompaq often comes to the Captain?s Table. You always go back to your home time and place.
Logic, Vulcans value it far too much
Pike had better figure heroically in his story again, or Hompaq will make him regret wasting her time with prattle.
Heroism is bravery when you expect to fail
P172 Hompaq doesn?t know what pizza is, or haggis, but haggis sounds acceptable. Hompaq has heard of mushrooms, a fungus. Klingons do not eat fungus. Gagh would be good with bread and cheese. Best when served live, but they can be stewed, for those with delicate stomachs. Pigs are much like targs, bacon, as sliced pig, sounds acceptable. Hompaq knows olives from martinis, salty but acceptable. She prefers hot peppers, humans have no peppers worthy of the name, but jalapenos are adequate. Pike hasn?t heard of replicators or gagh. Hompaq, after a bite of pizza, Mot bah!
P189 Hompaq toys with a napkin, tearing it into little pieces and smiling in a distracted sort of way. Hompaq asserts that Pike ?was sweet? on Yeoman Colt. They should have been involved; on a Klingon ship, sleeping with the captain is an honor. If Pike truly cared for Colt he would have let the rest of the crew know she was his chosen mate.
Cap, the bartender, calls Hompaq over. Her aura of bravado drained away, and she stood up without protest and walked over to the bar.
Living happily ever after isn?t a comfort
Hompaq growls deep in her throat at the hissing cat-woman. Long story about the animosity between the two
P205 Hompaq astonished that Pike turned off the gravity on his shuttle
If Hompaq was telling the story, Pike would have killed the gravity hours earlier and enjoyed himself with Colt. Hompaq admits to being incorrigible, and damned near insatiable, too.
Hompaq encourages Pike to get out more, beat your chest and battle some enemies. Or make savage love with exotic strangers. She scratched an itch in an area most women would have considered private.
Hompaq in favor of leaving someone behind if they are a liability
P221 Hompaq not aware of story of Ahab. She knows that human books contain much silliness and soul-searching when action would better suit them. Act first, then act again while your opponent lies unconscious. Pike would enjoy Hompaq?s way of rendering him unconscious.
Klingons aren?t subtle. Pike flattered that she thinks him heroic enough to consort with, but he?s don?t sure he?s willing to risk broken bones in order to prove anything more to her.
P236 Klingons would give much to know the location of the kraken, fighting one hand to hand sounds like a fine idea to Hompaq.  No Klingon would survive an encounter with the kraken then slay the beasts in an ignoble fashion. Leave them alive for others to pit themselves against. The Aronnians are still riding their magnificent beasts from star to star.
Hompaq bares her teeth when Nowan questions whether she is to be believed.
Hompaq held out her hand to clasp arms in the Klingon fashion
Hompaq looks a Pike with a frankly appraising eyes of a predator sizing up its prey.  She admits she doesn?t know what buttons to push, but Pike will be amazed how fast she learns.
P250 Hompaq stops abruptly and crouches to thrust her nose into Prrghh?s face. If you?re staying, sit down. If not, get out of the way.
P260 the unidentified ship is part Orion, with components that bear the registration codes for a Klingon unmanned science probe.
