Prague (or Praha as the locals know it!)
Greg and I drove to Prague.  It takes about 11 hours and splitting it up between two days isn't bad.  You do need to stop inside the Czech border to buy a sticker for your car.  We stayed at the Leonardo Hotel.  It was near Charles Bridge and the downtown area.  We really liked it.  There is a lot to see and do there.  Prague Castle, St. Vitius' Cathedral, Golden Lane, Town Hall Clock, Church of St. Nicolas, Charles Bridge, the list really goes on and on.  We also went to an opera at the State Opera House, which was very nice.  We saw a show at a Black Light Theatre and went to a restaurant/bar with live jazz music.

On our way to Munich we stopped in Seiffen, Germany.  This is where the Christmas pyramids originated.  There are many shops there with many sizes and styles.  You can buy them with the figurines already attached or choose your own to create your own scene.  They also have many handmade nutcrackers.  You can't beat this town for variety or quality.  I highly recommend stopping here if you ever get a chance.

We spent New Year's Eve in Munich at the Hofbrauhaus.  You do need reservations for dinner.  There is a set price which includes a 4 course meal.  You are responsible only for drinks.  Although during the day this beer hall is very casual, for New Year's Eve you will see people in tuxes and sequined gowns, so leave the jeans at home.  If you ever plan to be there around New Year's, make sure you see any museums before the 31st or after the 1st.  Almost all of the shops, as well as the museums, are shut down during that time.
