Clyde's Hearing Dog Page

A Hearing Dog is a dog trained specifically to help its deaf or hard of hearing
owner by alerting to sounds that its owner does not hear. Typical alerts
include door-bell, door-knock, firealarm, name call, and alarm clock. Sometimes
a dog is trained for telephone ring, or baby crying, depending on the
individual needs of its owner. Hearing impairmment is an invisible disability
and having a Hearing Dog in public makes the disability visible. The public
is less likely to become incensed by the deaf or hard of hearing person "ignoring"
them, realizing that they are not in fact being ignored but that they are
trying to talk to the back of a deaf person!
