Old Futhark
Dagaz

Dagaz was a young man with red brown hair worn till his shoulders.
He was a normal boy and grew into a normal man that was good with sticks and spears. He could aim very well and hit almost everything even if it was rather far away or moving fast.

He and Kenaz had a tight friendship because they were twins.
He knew his brother was very clumsy, but that didn't matter. Although he broke almost everything he touched, he had a kind heart and that was what made Kenaz such a lovably guy.
Dagaz on the other hand, never broke anything, but although he had a big heart, he didn't trust everybody as quickly as his brother did. Dagaz stayed on the background and most of all sat on high places, so that nobody would disturb him.
He usually woke up very early, and climbed into a tree or on the roof of their house to see how the sun got up.
In winter, he always got depressed because he couldn't see the sun nor see how it woke from its sleep.

On the day that they were going to leave, Dagaz devoted his whole morning on the sun. It was almost winter, and he knew that he wouldn't have enough time to see the sun anymore.
He sat on the roof, looking and enjoying the sunshine on his skin.
Almost crying, he got down when they had to leave.
He knew that his brother Kenaz didn't really wanted to go, as did he. Although it was for other reasons.
He knew that Kenaz was scared of the sharpness of the blades and that he never wanted to hurt anybody.
He on the other hand thought that the whole place was probably very dark and lacked colours.
He thought of running away, but he wasn't that sort of guy. He confronted himself with his fear. Trying to think of something else, he started to talk to Kenaz.
"It'll all be alright Kenaz." Dagaz said as they were walking towards their new destiny.
"I'm not sure.. I don't want to fight.. I'll cut off one of my arms for sure."
"You don't know that.. And there are other weapons than a sword."
"What? crossbow? I'll poke my eye out with an arrow. Or perhaps daggers.. A long cut in my leg when I put it in my belt. I can't fight Dagaz.. Everybody knows that."
"I heard that Thurisas is a leader of one of the Aetts. And he was clumsy too."
"Not as clumsy as I am."
"And less stubborn too." And with that, they both kept silent until they entered the gates towards the camp.

When they got to the camp, he saw to his surprise that the whole field where everybody was training was filled with colours and sunlight. Smiling at his two older brothers as they came near, he felt that he could take on the world again, just by seeing the sun.
"Hello!" They said to each other. "How are you?"
Dagaz hadn't really forgotten about his brothers feelings, but he didn't think of them at the moment. "I'm great" Dagaz said when he still felt the sun on his back.
His brother on the other hand was still not so enjoying this place. But Thurisas had thought of a solution for that.
Dagaz was happy that Thurisas didn't force Kenaz to fighting.
Kenaz and Thurisas left to get things straight, while he and Theiwaz stayed.
"You're under my command." Theiwaz said. "I hope you don't mind."
"Of course not brother of mine. What am I supposed to do?"
"Oh... probably fight and stuff like that."

And his brother was right. He could use a stick to defend himself, but his man to man fighting was rather bad.
But with the time they had, he got better and better. Even with swords and daggers.

Many years passed and eventually they were summoned to go to war.
Dagaz didn't really want to go. But then again, he had never backed away from something he had feared. He would get over it, or he would be killed and then he wouldn't have to fear nothing. He would just sit on that same roof for the rest of his spirit life and watch the sun.

But something interfered that beautiful thought and they were send towards another destiny. A destiny filled with mythical creatures named dragons.
