WCW Nitro - 14/12/1998
Written solely by Daniel Greig
Hour One
= Live from the Ice Palace in Tampa, Florida.
= Hosted by Tony Schivone, Mike Tennay & Larry Zbyszko.
= The beautiful Nitro Girls dance as the idiots blab as per usual.
= DDP / Giant neat video package.
= Scott Putski vs. Raven wait, no. Raven comes in to bitch and whine, as Scott just stands around. After a while Kanyon comes in and tells Scott to piss off. Bit harsh. Kanyon talks about crap, about Raven being a rich and spoilt child and that he had a 3.2 million trust fund. Raven then just walks off and its time to say, what the hell was that?
= Villano V vs. Eddie Guerrero Lock up to start, then into a flip-floppy sequence. Eddie stalls on the outside and gets suicide dived on. Back in, and its a back suplex and an elbow from Guerrero and then taunts, drawing an Eddie Sucks chant. Punches to Villano in the corner, then a Senton Bomb from out back in, delivered by Guerrero. Abdominal stretch on the canvas and a bridge leglock to wear Villano down. Back up and Villano V gets a powerslam on Eddie for a two count. Flapjack and an inverted surfboard, but the Ed-meister powers out. Villano goes up to the top rope, but gets crouched by Guerreros bodyguard, leading to a superplex and frog splash, but Eddie doesnt go for the cover. The LWO comes down and attempts to recruit Villano V in to their wallet-stealing group. As guess what? He accepts. *
= Nitro Girls dance around (and on) the announcers table, as the guys talk crap, as usual.
= Al Green vs. Wrath Gee, I wonder who wins this bout? Stalemate to start, but of course, Wrath takes over. Blind charge by AdamBombBryanClarkeWrath misses, but Al Green sucks, so he cannot take over. They fight around ringside but nothing happens, so they head back in where Al gets a top-rope clothesline by Wrath for two. The crowd is really dead. Wrath must realise that, and a shoulderblock and Meltdown later, Wrath has the pinfall victory. Darn it, I was wrong, I thought that Al Green would win, geez Im dumb. *
= Ric Flair / Eric Bischoff video package.
= Mean Gene interviews Eric Bischoff. Easy E comes in the ring and starts off by picking on a fat kid at ringside. He talks shit, so Flair runs out and chases him off. Im getting ready to fast forward the ads, but Flair comes back out. Maybe Ill fast forward anyway. Gene asks Ric some questions and then Ric Flair literally goes PSYCHO. He runs into the turnbuckle, does a back flip, and then elbowdrops the canvas a few times. Then, he has the infamous heart attack. It was a shoot I think, but anyways, trainers and Dusty Rhodes come out anyway.
= As Ric gets shoved off into the ambulance, Bam Bam Bigelow enters the arena. The really drunk Scott Hall gives Triple B the crouch-chop, so he attacks the pissed one. Kevin Nash and Goldberg come in and they all taunt each other, but getting held back by tons of security. Terry Taylor comes into view and announces a three-way dance between, Nash, Bigelow and the World Champion, Goldberg.
Hour Two
= Still live from the Ice Palace, but our announcers are Tony, Mike and Bobby Heenan for the remainder of the show.
= Mean Gene brings out Billy Kidman. Kidman goes on for a while about the LWO and calls Rey Mysterio Jr. out. Kidman wants a fair match with Rey so we get
= Cruiserweight Title Match: Champion, Billy Kidman vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. Stalemate to start off, then Kidman reverses a Frankensteiner into a Powerbomb for two. Rey baseball slides Kidman on the outside, then he shoulderblocks Billy into the first row. Rey attempts the West Coast Pop, but Kidman dropkicks him, in a nice looking move, for a two count. A flip-floppy sequence occurs with Billy getting a clothesline for two. A blind charge miss from Kidman, and Mysterio gets a top-rope bulldog for a two count only. Bronco Buster and a Split-legged moonsault for another two count for Rey. Rey misses a Senton bomb, and Kidman gets a top-rope splash for two. Kidman goes for the sleeper in a CRUISERWEIGHT MATCH??? Powerslam reversal into a rollup gets two, but Mysterio tries it again and Cue the Run-in! The Latino World Order attacks both Rey and Billy. They get the upper advantage, but the numbers game plays against them, and the LWO heel beatdown occurs.
= Chris Jericho and Ralphus come out with a whiteboard. Jericho then talks about his sex appeal with Ralphus. No kidding. Our future Y2J calls out Konnan. Its a fake Konnan, and Im bored already. Jericho tells us that he was screwed out of the Television Title, a couple of weeks ago. Jericho then gets angry and puts Konnan in the Liontamer (Walls of Jericho). What a load of shit.
= More time filler, with the lovely Nitro Girls dancing again, while the idiots speculate about Ric Flair.
= Emery Hale vs. Barry Windham Barry attacks on Emery early on. Barry gets whacked on his ass, tempting Hale to scream Whos the man! Well, its not Emery Hale because he just missed a blind charge. They fight out at ringside and Barry gives Emery a scoop slam. Back in and its a back body drop and bulldog from the future West Texas Redneck. And a superplex is all she wrote as Barry Windham picks up the victory. *
= Norman Smiley vs. Perry Saturn Lockup to start. German suplex by Smiley for two. Its all submissions and quick two counts early on. Saturns eye twitches and he goes nuts (not Ric Flair nuts though). But Norman gets the WigglySlam and then fresh air spanks. WTF move by Norman and The Cat and Sonny Onoo appear at ringside. Ref bump and I can see where this is going. Yep, Im right. Cat comes in and kicks Saturn, drawing new referee, Scott Dickinson to make the fast count, for the Norman Smiley win. 1 *
= Scheme Gene Mean interviews Bret Hart who is the United States champion. Bret brags about crippling people and pulling their groin. Ahem. He then says that, THAT PUNK DDP, is hiding behind Kimberlys skirt. And Bret says the WWF is getting more adult? He challenges DDP a shot at his title, so DDP walks out only to be attacked by The Giant. Rips the WCW props on the set and chokeslams DDP into some conveniently set up staging area. Tony Schivone mentions that this is sickening and then calls for the replay.
Hour Three
= Guess what? We are STILL live from the Ice Palace in Tampa, Florida.
= Konnan vs. Stevie Ray Konnan talks shit as always. Stevie kicks the crap out of Konnan to start. Konnan comes back with a rolling clothesline and a gun packet. Stevie sucks, so he has to stall on the outside. Konnan and his crotch then taunt Stevie. Lovely. Stevie tries to use the slapjack, but BROTHA BOOKER convinces him not to. Stevie Ray runs into a face jam (X-Factor) for the Konnan pinfall. *
= Bischoff comes out to cry about Flair. Oh boo hoo.
= Mean Gene comes out AGAIN to interview someone. This time its Booker T. BROTHA STEVIE comes out and tells Booker that he helped him when he was five years old. This brotherly thing is touching. He then offers Booker a spot in nWo Shitty-wood.
= Some woman who just wants a free seat, claims to be Ravens mum. Im guessing shes been stalking him down at the bowery again. Kanyon says that he has left the arena, and asks he if he can have fifty bucks. I was literally rolling on the floor for that one. This crap ends when Ravens mum asks why Kanyon hasnt been returning her calls. Riiiiiiight.
= Intoxicated Scott Hall vs. Horace Hogan. Hey, that gimmick could get over! He would be so dedicated to it. Working on it in the mornings, during lunch and dinner he could even shoot at live events! They work on each others arms to start. Horace gives a clothesline and Scott gives a chokeslam. Hall goes over the top to the floor and gets suicide dived on. Horace with his crappy offence like a backbreaker and splash for a two count. Leg drop for two and they hit the sleeper! Hall gets out with a whatever. Horace gets jacked with the fallaway slam and wait for it, wait for it then the nWo runs in for the DQ. Disco tries the save but gets killed.
= Nitro Girls boogie.
= Van Hammer vs. Scott Steiner Far Out man, its a Steiner squash! Afterwards, Scott and Buff offer a spot in nWo black and white to Lex Luger, but he just walks away.
= MAIN EVENT, non-title match: Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Kevin Nash vs. World Champion, Goldberg Bigelow attacks Goldberg to start but fails, due to the no selling by Goldberg. As suspected, Nash and Triple B double-team the champion. Double clothesline by Goldberg and the heels scatter outside. Back in, and Nash with a sidewalk slam for two. Diving Headbutt by Bam Bam for a two count. Goldberg tries to wear down the leg of Kevin Nash but Bigelow breaks it up. Goldberg with a suplex and the spear on Triple B. The atmosphere of the crowd here is great. He tries for the Jackhammer but once again, Nash breaks it up. Spear to Nash and a clothesline to Bigelow. Scott Hall runs in to attack Bigelow and Goldberg as the referee calls for the disqualification. Hall and Bigelow fight around ringside as the Main Event participants for Starrcade 98, Kevin Nash and Goldberg fight in the ring as we run drastically out of time. **
= Greigies Two Cents: Well, its a Nitro, what can I say? The matches sucked, and there was a lot of time filler, with Gene Okerland and the Nitro girls dancing a lot. But, thats what Nitro is for, I suppose. It was all right, but nothing really special happened. The Chokeslam and the Heart Attack were pretty big situations, but there is no need to go rushing out to find this video. This period of WCW was also the drastic downfall of World Championship Wrestling, with reruns of the nWo while the WWF had McMahon vs. Austin. Cant say its recommended though. This is Greigie saying, see you next time!
