Space Patrol

Our Major Tom is lost in space
His engine out, he's in disgrace
His food's run thin, his water gone
He is out of ideas for going home

His little tour of our mighty galaxy
Is shipwrecked from a minor fallacy
His rockets failed, now he sleeps upon it
Hit by ice atoms from that blasted comet

Digging caves into that comet of ice
The rockets failed and now failed twice
Now drifting drifting three light years from home
Poor Tom is desperate his hope is gone

Now twice twenty years he's been adrift
Rebuilt his engine but gets no lift.
Sure court-martial if he survive
He's a castaway now but at least, alive.

There is one thing that Tom has not tried
He plugs in his Acme Anti-Gravity Drive
He turns it on and waits for motion
He's stranded on the biggest ocean

The drive is running but it's not workin
No gravity to push against, no planets lurkin
A million billion miles to the nearest star
The Acme Anti-Drive can't push that far.

And so we come to the end of our tale
Of Major Tommy and his ship called the Whale,
Equipped with Anti-Gravity Drive
No good in space! How odd! It fails!
