This one is subtle too, in April 2001 a Chinese pilot was killed while intercepting a US spy plane off the coast of China. The Chinese refused to release Americans who made an emergency landing in China. They insisted on an apology. One day the President said he was sorry, and when the Americans were released he said that didn’t mean he regretted the death.

The newspapers will filled with attempts to translate the Chinese words for regret and apology which reminded me of President Clinton’s quibbles over the concept of "sexual relations" The point is not that both Presidents quibbled, the point is that the Bush quibbles coulda got us all killed.
