| Wow! It's been a little while, but the coil is good. The main lead to the distributer was the culprit. The wire had rusted off and needed to be re-spliced together to the connector. The engine will turn over and run if only on starter fluid. Tweaked around on it for a while and crawled under to find that the fuel pump was burning hot. Not sure if it's burned up or what. Took the filter off and ran some starter fluid into it to clean it out...it was all blocked up. I'm going to hook the line directly up to a container of gas and see if the pump works this weekend. I also have some questions about the pressure sensor in the engine compartment. The hose is disconnected and some sort of wiring apparatus is hooked up to the manifold where I'm assuming the hose used to be hooked in. I don't know if this is an update or some kind of mistake. |

| Once again I have neglected this website for more than a month. I have discovered that my pressure sensor is linked correctly. The electrical on top should be there (though I have screwed it up and it needs repair), and I found a connection underneath the air pipes on the manifold where the hose from the sensor hooks in. Had to break out the flashlight for that one! If you run into "KGMAN" on the Samba website buy some stuff from him. He lives about 15 minutes from me and I bought two new tires with rims and a Bently manual and a used fuel pump from him. He's got a yard full of karmann ghia parts and some type 3 stuff as well. He'd rather not junk the parts so buy them before he hauls it off to the dump. I put the new tires on and my wife actually helped me roll the car out into the driveway and we washed/dried it. It ain't so ugly anymore and I hope to get some fuel line to replace the dried up rubber ones that are on it right now. I need to replace the filter and have the fuel tank cleaned out while I'm at it. I'll let ya know as soon as I get this done if the thing will fire up. I'll also try to get some more recent photos. |
