On the plus side
On the down side
You get rid of a murderer
The person might not be a murderer
An eye for an eye!
Isn't that just a nice way of saying revenge?
Society doesnt have to pay for the upkeep of a murderer
Maybe its better punishtment to let the murderer think about what he's done for an entire life time and it's cheaper.
To show we wont tolerate murderers in society
No exact statistic can be formulated proving one way or the other
Either way you put it, its a hard decision to make wheter a person who has murdered should be executed. Many tough calls have to be made, like should a persons age matter when it comes to the death penalty, or should this person's mental handicap stop the execution from continuing. Or are should a murder by any means be considered wrong.
My personal belief is that with an imperfect justice system, no one should be allowed to have the death penalty sentenced to them still too many appeals are allowed and with over 100 people wrongfully prosecuted and exonerated by DNA evidence. I also do not believe that the eye for eye belief is a proper one something inside me always tells me that even if they are murderers they dont deserve death, it's just giving them the easy way out and that we should make them think about what they've done for the rest of their prison bound lives. It really is up to us to at least fix our justice system so that those who do agree with capital punishment should know that they arent agreeing to kill someone innocent, but seeing the death penalty abolished would be perfectly fine with me.
