Standing in front of his apartment, fumbling for his keys, an
irritating tapping of feet behind him, Nick can't help wonder if
getting shot can somehow alter a person's personality. He's
been
chalking it up to post-traumatic stress, but he's beginning to
think
he's missing something because for some reason Greg seems to be
very
angry. And most of that anger seems to be directed towards him.

He sighs as he finally opens the door, stepping aside to let Greg in
first. He should be happy that Greg's doing well enough to be
released from the hospital, but when the guy was still in there he
had an excuse to leave as soon as visiting hours were over. Now
there's no escape from this weird, Greg-like person. Maybe
he's
overreacting though, could be since he hasn't had more than 3
hours
sleep a night over this past week and the flood of emotions he's
been going through during that week are probably not helping in
making him see things as clear as he normally would. Besides,
hospitals can really get to a person so now that Greg's home,
well
at his place, things will surely get better.

The minute he enters the living room and notices the annoyed look on
Greg's face, a look that has become all too familiar these days,
he's not so sure having Greg home will make any difference. And
he
knows by now that he doesn't have to bother with asking Greg
what's
wrong because Greg'll deny there's a problem anyway, like
he's been
doing all week. He respects the fact that Greg doesn't want to
talk
about what happened, he already knows most of it from Catherine, but
these days they're not talking at all.

"Can I get you anything, Greg?"

Greg shakes his head. "I'm fine."

Nick walks towards the kitchen, glancing at his watch, only thirty
minutes before he has to get to work and he's sort of happy about
that, which makes him feel slightly guilty.

"You want coffee?" He keeps feeling the need to break those
awkward
silences between them that didn't used to be there.

"I said I was fine, didn't I?"

He has to bite his lip to stop himself from saying something
he'll
regret later, instead of saying anything he starts making himself
some coffee. Not that it'll help make him feel any less tired,
hell
he's been drinking so much coffee these days that he's
probably
immune to the cafeine by now. He stays in the kitchen until the
coffee's ready and he even has his coffee there, checking his
watch
again to see that there are still twenty minutes left.

Nick returns to the living room where Greg's now sitting on the
couch, trying to look as if he's fascinated by something on tv,
clearly just a way to ignore Nick's presence. Nick decides that
he's
not in the mood to pick another fight with the guy, so Nick ignores
him as well and makes his way to the bathroom. The thought of a
shower sounding a lot more appealing than having to spend another
minute in the same room with Greg and that's something he'd
never
thought he'd ever find himself thinking only a week ago.

Inside the bathroom he doesn't have the energy to undress himself
and he just stares into the mirror wondering what's going on. He
should be able to figure it out if only he'd be able to get his
thoughts straight. So, Greg got shot and he can only imagine what
impact such a thing has on a person, let alone a rookie CSI like
Greg. And the fact that the getting shot was a direct result of
ignoring Catherine's instructions probably isn't sitting to
well
with Greg either. Because it could definitely mean the end of his
short-lived career in the field. Knowing how much Greg wants to be
in the field that notion is enough to piss Greg off. But Nick
can't
get himself to care all that much about that, still feeling the
relief he felt the moment he arrived at the hospital and heard Greg
was going to be okay. Feeling even more relieved when Greg opened
his eyes for the first time, smiling one of those lazy smiles and
only then he believed that everything was going to be okay. Funny
how he's not so sure about that right now. He smiles wryly at his
own reflection in the bathroom mirror, because the thought really
isn't that funny.

Nick sighs, running his fingers through his hair and decides he
should just be patient, wait for the old Greg to return, give the
guy the space he apparently needs. And it's not like the old Greg
has disappeared completely, there are still moments where Greg seems
to forget he's angry about something and acts like himself again.
It's enough to make Nick believe that in time things will get
better
and it's the only reason why he can still find the energy to
remain
nice to Greg.

When he checks his watch he realizes that now he even has to hurry
or he'll be late. Again. And now that Greg's out of the
hospital
Nick's not so sure that Grissom will be as tolerant about that as
he
has been all week.

He passes through the living room on his way to the hall, glancing
over his shoulder to say, "Gotta hurry, G. Later."

Greg looks up, a blank look on his face. "Yeah. Later."

Just as he opens the front door he hears Greg call him back, he
closes the door and turns around to find Greg coming out of the
living room.

"What?"

Greg shrugs. "You forgot something."

"What?" Sounding slightly more annoyed than absolutely necessary,
but he's running late and he's not sure what Greg wants now.

He watches Greg's mouth curl up into a little smile and he
can't
hide his surprise when Greg walks up to him, brushing his lips
against his own before kissing him slowly, yet thoroughly.

"That." Greg's smile's more smug than anything else as he
adds, "Don't just stand there. You're gonna be late."
