Nick came home from a visit to his parents. Greg and Barrett hadn't joined him as they had gone to see Greg's mom in California for Mother's Day.
He just stopped in the doorway and sighed. As much as Texas was where he had grown up and had called home, this place was his heart and there couldn't be anything better than being here right now.
Just then. Suddenly a two foot whirlwind came from the living room and grabbed Nick around the legs and yelled, "Daddy, I missed you sooooo much."
Nick let out a whoop of joy and grabbed his son in his arms and hugged him tight.
Barrett kissed his daddy on the cheek and practically knocked him out with his own version of a bear hug., which Nick loved.
"Hey Big Bear. Where is papa and why aren't you visiting Grandma?" Nick asked his son while hugging him tight.
"Papa is sick, and Aunt Cat and Lindsay came over to stay with us while you were visiting Mama, and Opa. Did you bring me back a present?" wondered Barrett.
"Yes I did big guy, How about we go see papa and I give all the presents out a once, okay?" laughed Nick.
"WHEEEE presents!" yelled Bear as he ran to find Greg.
Nick followed his young joy and found Greg laying down in the sun room asleep.
"No Bear, let papa sleep. You and I will go up to your room and open your presents from Mama and Opa, okay" Nick said quietly, hoping not to wake up the sleeping Greg.
Nick picked Bear up in his arms and quietly went upstairs.
In Bear's room, which was as you guessed was naturally decorated in teddy bears, Nick sat on the bed and gave Bear his presents from his grandparents. He told Bear his Grandparents who loved him dearly, and missed him while they lived in Texas.
Bear loved his new presents from his mama and Opa.
"Bear, how about we go into Papa and Daddy's room and call them so that you can say thank you yourself? Daddy wants to tell them he got home safely anyways?" asked Nick of his pride and joy.
"Okay. Come on Daddy, let's go!" cried Bear running to the phone.
Nick called his parents.
"Hi Mom, there is someone here who would like to speak to you for a minute." Nick said to his Mother.
"HI MAMA, OPA, I love my presents thank you very much!!!!" said an excited Bear on the phone.
"Well Bear your welcome Opa is busy right now but I will tell him you loved your gift if that is okay?" asked Mama to a still excited Bear.
"Okay Mama, say hi to Opa for me please?" asked Bear who was smiling ear to ear he loved to talking to his Mama and Opa.
"I will Bear could you please put your Daddy on the phone Mama would like to talk to him. You go and play with your new toys while Mama and Daddy talk for a few minutes okay?" asked Mama to her little bundle of energy.
"Okay Mama. I love you and Opa and thanks again for the great new toys byeeeeee." yelled Bear in his haste to get back to his new toys. Nick had been listening to the conversation next to his son on the bed.
"Bear, you can go play with your new toys but be quiet okay we don't want to wake up papa remember he is still asleep downstairs okay?" asked Nick of his son.
"Okay Daddy, I will be quiet playing in my room" said Bear as he left the bedroom and went next door to play with his toys.
"Hi Mom, yeah I got back okay with no problems except I found Greg and Bear here waiting for me. Actually just Bear, Greg is asleep downstairs. I guess Bear wore him out before I got home." Nick told his mom.
"How are you feeling from the long flight? Aren't you tired yourself?" asked Jane with concern for her son's new condition.
"Yeah I am a little tired actually, must be the time change and the long flight and everything." Nick said yawning on the phone.
"Sorry about that mom. I guess I am more tired than I thought." yawned Nick again.
"Listen, you need to get some sleep and if Greg is asleep downstairs I bet any money Bear hasn't had his afternoon nap either. Why don't the two of you have a sleep together." sighed Jane worried now.
"Okay Mom. Bear and I will do just that and when I find out why they didn't go to California I will call you back how about that?" asked Nick.
"That sounds fine now the Thr..two of you get some sleep and you call me later" laughed Jane as she knew that was what they would be doing in just a few minutes she knew how tired her son got from long trips.
After the phone call was done Nick realized that he was really exhausted after the trip and from the flight.
So he gathered Bear and a blanket and the two of them had a nice nap together on the bed.
It was there an hour later that Greg found his son and his husband sleeping together. Bear had crawled right up on Nick's chest and was fast asleep. Greg wondered how Nick could breathe with him sleeping on his chest like that but didn't dare wake up the sleeping duo to ask him either.
While Greg was Hesitating in the doorway, tears came to Greg's eyes as he watched the two most important people in his life sleep.
He crept forward to the bedside and slid a card under Bear's outstretched fingers and left, leaving it there for Nick to read when they woke up later. He went quietly left, heading down to the kitchen to start dinner.
If he knew his men well enough, they would be down soon once the smell of the food reached them.
A Half an hour later, Nick woke to the smell of texas chili and cornbread coming from downstairs. He smiled, Greg knew just what he liked when he came from home.
The smell woke Bear as well. He looked up and said, "I'm hungry Daddy."
"I know, but let's see what this card is for first, okay?" said Nick as he took the card from his son.
It was a note saying to, "Go down the hallway to the spare room and see your new surprise."
Nick checked Bear's diaper and found that. He needed changing so they went to his room and got him changed then they both made their way down to the spare room.
"Bear. Do you know what is Daddy's surprise is behind the door?" asked Nick.
"Uh-huh but Papa said if I told I wouldn't get any special dessert at dinner tonight if I told you" blabbered Bear.
"Okay then, let's see what it is together than. Shall we?" laughed Nick as he opened the door.
When Nick had pushed the door open Bear reached over and turned on the light so Nick could see that the room was now turned into a Nursery.
Nick just looked at everything in a state of shock. He couldn't believe the work that Greg had done in the room while he had been away. Nick started to cry he was speechless as he realized the second meaning of the room.
"Daddy? Why are you crying? Don't you like the new room?" asked Bear.
"No daddy loves it Big Bear and. You know what this means too, don't you " asked Nick to his son.
"Yeah Daddy, I get a new cub!! And a new brother!!" squealed Bear the secret finally revealed.
"You little sneak! You knew about this the whole time, didn't you!" laughed Nick as he tickled Bear till he was in tears of merriment.
"Uh huh, Papa wanted it to be a surprise for you. Are you surprised Daddy? laughed Bear as Nick continued to tickle him to hear the sounds of his son's laughter.
"Well, let's go down to see papa and have some Texas Chili for dinner and give Papa his present too, okay?" Nick said as he put Bear down.
"Okay" called Bear as he ran to the bedroom to get his papa's present off the chair. They went downstairs together and found Greg cooking up a storm in the kitchen. Nick came up behind his lover and wrapped his strong arms around Greg. He gently kissed him on the neck.
Greg turned around in Nick's embrace but before he could return the kiss, Bear began hitting him with his gift saying "Here is your gift from Daddy, Papa".
Greg took the slightly battered package from his son and they went over to the table to open the present while Nick took over at the stove to make sure the supper wasn't burnt. Greg's crow of delight told Nick all he needed about how Greg liked his present.
Greg quickly returned to his side. Nick saw that Bear was now playing with his toys in the corner so they had a few minutes of private time to themselves. Greg grabbed Nick and kissed him full on the mouth.
Nick wrapped his arms around Greg, careful after seeing the room upstairs not to hug him too tight. They both stood there, for a few minutes kissing and making up for lost time from when they hadn't seen each other.
When they finally came up for air, Nick asked, "When did you find out and how far along are you?"
"Um, actually hun, that's the real surprise. I'm not the one pregnant. The doctor called just after you left for Texas. And, um your due in October." announced Greg.
Nick paled.
"Wha.What do you mean my tests came back?" stammered Nick.
"Remember when we had our weekly insurance/work physicals a couple of weeks ago? They took the blood work then," smiled Greg as he gently rubbed Nick's stomach.
"The results came in last week while you were in Texas so I had the team come over and help me with the room as a surprise for you," added Greg as he continued his tale.
Nick grabbed for a chair. He still couldn't believe his ears. But then in the next instant, a smile bloomed and his face radiated pure joy.
"That was what my mother meant! She said I had a different glow about me. She knew" laughed Nick.
Greg blushed and stammered "To be honest she knew before you did Nick. When I found out, I called her as I didn't want there to be any trouble if something should happen to you while you were down there." Greg's expression turned sheepish. "You don't mind that I told her first do you?"
"No hun I don't and thank you. If something had happened and I lost the baby out of sheer ignorance then I don't know what I would have done. Thank you for everything," Nick said as he got up and took Greg into his arms. "I couldn't have asked for a better Mother's Day gift than this one."
