| Okay I've been playing with this one for a little while and I think I'm finally happy with it. Hope you like it. Author: angelh2o ([email protected]) Title: What Others See Pairing: Nick/Greg Rating: FRT Disclaimer: Not mine, <sigh> but the fun I could have if they were Spoiler: None really Summery: Why is it everyone else always see things more clearly? Greg had been excited to be going to San Francisco a week ago. A friend's wedding, getting to see his parents. It has sounded perfect. But all week long he'd felt like something was missing. He still enjoyed seeing his friends and family but was still missing something he couldn't identify. He packed his bag trying to put a finger on what it was. Greg jumped when his cell phone rang. Laughing he answered. " Yeah?" " Hey G. Do I still need to pick you up at the airport, or have you decided to stay?" " Very funny. " Greg dropped on the edge of his bed. " And I told you I can take a cab. " You don't have to," the Texan accent answered him. " I don't mind coming to get you." Greg grinned and couldn't help himself. " Miss me that much huh?" " Nah, nice and quiet." Greg could hear the smile in his voice. " Right." He sighed. " Where are you anyway?" He looked at the clock knowing Nick should be at work. " Waiting for some lab results," Nick told him. " So did you have a good time?" " Yeah at the wedding," Greg said. " But Dan getting married just made Mom ask me at least a dozen times when I was going to settle down." He heard Nick's chuckle. " Weddings tend to do that to mothers." There was talking in the background. " Greg, I'm gonna have to go track Warrick down. See you in a couple hours?" " Yeah," Greg told him. " And Nicky be careful." " Always." Greg shut his cell phone and put it in his pocket. He went back to packing. It wasn't until he was finished that he realized he felt happier then he'd been all week. " Quite a smile you got going on there," a voice said from the doorway. " Haven't seen that one all week." Greg looked up to see one of his oldest friends standing in the doorway. " Bec, I have smiled until my face hurt this week, what are you talking about?' Bec shook her head. " Not one smile has reached your eyes all week." She walked in and sat down on his bed. " I heard that phone when I was talking to your mom. So give." He looked at her like she was crazy. " Give what?" " Oh please," she rolled her eyes. " I read the signs. Slightly withdrawn all week, turning down bridesmaids left and right, and then suddenly happy after one little phone call. You're in love and why haven't you told me?' He swallowed. " In love?" She watched him a minute. " Who were you talking too?" " Nick," Greg told her. Bec nodded. " The Nick you endure football for and drag out to clubs?" " Yeah," he nodded. " But you're not dating?" she asked. He shook his head. " No." She watched him with squinted eyes for a moment. " Okay let me ask you something. You like him right, think he's attractive?" He just looked at her with round eyes. " Come on. You didn't honestly think that I would believe that you were 'tutoring' Bobby Kent did you?" He smiled. " You never said anything." " I figured you were afraid of your parents finding out," Bec told him. " Me? I was fine with it so I never thought in mattered." " I love you Bec," Greg smiled. " I'm irresistible," she smacked his knee. " You didn't answer the question." He shook his head. " You weren't supposed to notice that." She smiled. " I notice everything. It's what makes me a good detective. So do you find Nick attractive?" He sighed giving in. " Yes." " Enjoy spending time with him?" " Yes." " Missed him this week?" This time he just nodded. " Feel better now that you've talked to him?" Greg dropped back on the bed. " I hate you." Bec smiled. " No you don't. Besides what's the big deal?" " You don't know Nick," he tried to explain. " He's the straightest guy I know. He has that Ladies man reputation." She shook her head. " Yeah well I bet he thinks the same thing about you, after all most people do. " She looked down at him. " So how many girls have you seen him with lately?" He thought about that. " None, he's usually at work or" he trailed off as he realized what he was saying. " Or he's with you?" she finished for him. " Greg sure sounds like dating to me." She patted his knee. " I think you need to figure out why that is and what you want to do about it." Greg sat up. " You mean dwell on it and let it slowly drive me crazy on the plane." Bec shrugged. " Actually I meant spend your plane ride devising a plan to seduce him, but by all means go with your plan." He tried his best to glare, but she just ignored him. " Come on we need to get you to the airport." At the airport Bec gave him one last hug. " Do yourself a favor and just tell him." She pulled back and smiled. " He'd be crazy not to be in love with you." Greg shook his head. " Bec." She just smiled and gave him one last wave. He did think on the plane. She was right about telling Nick. Greg could admit that, but that didn't give him a way to actually do it. Screwing this up would mean losing the best friend he had in Vegas. Of course his only options here were pine after Nick and hope he didn't let it slip, or to act like he had a pair and make a move. Still the question was how? They already spent time together. How could he change that to make it a date? About 20 minutes from touch down a thought accrued to Greg. What if Nick thought they were dating? He started going over everything they had done together lately. Okay so they didn't hold hands and didn't kiss, but they did invade personal space and touch each other more then was normal. They spent too much time together to be just friends. Greg was more confused then ever now. One thing was certainly clear; he and Nick needed to talk. At least now though he had a pretty good idea where that conversation would lead. He found Nick waiting for him at baggage claim. The Texan grinned as he approached. " Hey." Greg couldn't have stopped his grin if he'd wanted to. " Hey." " Lets get your bags and get out of here," Nick nodded to the luggage carousel. " I hate the airport." " Yeah," Greg handed off his backpack and headed over to grab his bag. He had to figure out what he wanted to do. He could wait for Nick to bring the whole thing up, but really that could take forever. He had to find out a way to bring it up. He grabbed his bag and turned back around. Nick was watching him with a concerned look. " Greg, you okay?" Greg nodded. " Yeah. Can we grab some food on the way. I don't think I have anything edible at my place." " Sure," Nick told him. " So how did the wedding go?" They spent the trip to Greg's apartment catching up on each other's week. Greg told Nick about the drunken bacholar party, where he was the designated driver, and then the drunken relatives at the wedding it's self. Nick passed along details of the cases from the week. His and Warrick's case that turned out to be an accident and what he knew of the night shift's murder. Nick pulled in Greg's driveway. " You get the food and I'll get your bags." " My keys are somewhere in those bags," Greg told him. Nick wordlessly handed him his own keys, and Greg put another point towards couple. He never gave out keys to his apartment, but over a month ago they had exchanged keys when Nick had ended up on Greg's porch after beating him there after shift. He had ended up on Bec's porch or vise versa plenty in San Fransico, not to mention being best friends since diapers, but she had never had a key. Greg headed straight to the living room dropping the food on the coffee table. Nick went straight into the bedroom, no doubt dropping the bags on the bed so he'd have to deal with them before sleeping that night. He just sat down and sorted out the food. When Nick sat down next to him he just couldn't stop it. " Are we dating?" Nick blinked at him. " What?" Greg looked at him. " I mean we spend all out free time together and have each other's keys and you come to clubs I know you don't like because I want to go and-" " Greg," Nick stopped him with a smile bordering on affectionate or amuse. " I was just surprised you brought it up first." Greg let that sink in. " Yeah." Nick nodded. " Yeah." " Have you though we" Nick shrugged. " Not until Warrick said something." Greg just looked at him. " He asked when you were coming him and when I told him today he said good that means you'll be in a better mood tomorrow." Nick looked at him shyly. " Did you think" Greg shrugged. " Bec came in after I got off the phone with you and said something about me not being totally with it this week. She got me thinking about it." Nick nodded. " Good thinking or bad thinking?" Greg smiled. " Good thinking." Nick scooted a little closer. " Oh really, want to share?" " I could probably be persuaded," the younger man was now grinning. " Sounds like a plan," Nick slowly leaned over giving Greg plenty of time to move away if he wanted. Like that was gonna happen. Greg closed the distance pressing their lips together in the best kiss he'd had in a long time. The kiss quickly turned to passionate, Nick licking at Greg's lips that happily opened. They didn't break the kiss until breathing became a problem. Greg only realizing then that they were now laying on the couch. Nick pulled back, brown eyes meeting brown. " I've wanted to do that for a while now." Greg grinned. " Feel free to do it anytime you want." " Anytime?" Nick asked with a matching grin. " Oh yeah." |
