Highs and Lows from 5/18

On the brighter side for the Slugs rf Ted Williams hits 1st double and triple of season--The Splendid Splinters average-.275.
In the pm2 set Robinson turns things around, collecting 4 hits, as San Jose wins it's 3rd in row, vaulting them into first place in the NL West.

Heinie Manush homers in the top of the 11th, Nashville closer Rob Nenn gives up his first run of the year.
Memphis King, Tom Niedenfuer, closes it out for his 3rd save of the season.

The
Harmonizers clobber the Clowns as Carl Hubbel gets touched up for 10 runs in 5 2/3's for the loss. Eddie Cicotte goes the distance allowing just 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 4 for his 3rd win.
Columbus ends the day riding a 5 game win streak, during which time Mickey Mantle has been 10 for 20 and has taken the Batting Average lead. Since a hitless opening day, Mantle has hit in 14 straight. Go Mickey!!!!

Tulsa SS Phil Rizzuto connects for his 1st HR of the season as The Dust Devils dispatch Colorado Springs. Jack Pfiester goes 8 innings giving up 2 runs on 8 hits for his 1st win.

Albequerque drops their 7th in a row as they get knocked off by El Paso.
Gunslingers 1st baseman Bill Terry crushes an 8th inning Grand Slam to quiet any talk of a comeback.

Las Vegas shuts out Tucson as Pedro goes 6 innings giving up only 2 hits while recording 7 K's. Steve Carlton picks up his 2nd save going the remaining 3 innings.

Louisville makes 4 errors, but holds on to win 6-5. Walter Johnson improves to 3-0 and Paul Molitor has 3 RBI.

Po' Boys pitching falls apart... 28 runs allowed in the last four games, explaining that ugly L4.

The
Baton Rouge Gumbo, down 8-0, put up ten in the 5th and hold on to beat San Antonio 10-9, despite being outhit 20-13.

Mike Scott of the
Austin Wranglers gets his 1st victory with 7 k's in 6 innings against the reeling Po' Boys.

Ben Sanders of
Jacksonville tosses a 5 hitter to record his  second Complete Game victory in a row, running his record to 3-0.

The
Harlottes Charlie Buffington pitches 7 strong innings, allowing 7 hits and striking out 3 to record his 4th W

Stroll's Ralph Kiner his his 6th HR, tying him with the Aero's Babe Ruth for second place.
