5/14/07 Opening Day (am)
Highlights
Hitting: The Colorado Springs Aces are the only team to score double digit runs, blasting the Columbus Harmonizers 11-3 in front of a sell-out crowd. Hank Greenberg drives in 5 runs and collects 9 total bases, just missing the cycle by a single. Barry Bonds adds a 2 run HR, and Gabby Hartnett surprises with TWO 2 run HR. Lou Brock reaches base 3 of 4 times and swipes two bags.
Said Ed Cicotte of Columbus, " We were cruising along with a 3-0 lead. I had only given up 2 hits through 4, and then the wheels came off. I hit Kiki right on the knee with a pretty hard heater, I couldn't believe he stole second just a few pitches later. I guess the whole incident kind of rattled me, and we never recovered."

Honorable Mention: The visting New Orleans Knights collect 18 hits en route to a 9-5 win over the Anchorage Mooseheads. Benny Kauff leads the charge going 5 for 6, stealing 2 bases and scoring 3 runs.
Hank Aaron and Jason Giambi added 4 and 3 hits respectively.
Pitching: The San Antonio Stroll outdueled Walter Johnson and the visiting Lads of Louisville, winning 2-1 in 11 innings. Walter Johnson was great for Louisville, allowing no runs, 3 hits and 3 walks with 8 k's in 8 innings pitched, but the bullpen blew it. San Antonio's Don Drysdale inexplicably left the game in the top of the 6th after giving up his first hit of the day. Whatever the reason, it worked out fine, as Gabe White, Elton Chamberlain and Clark Griffith combine for 51/3 innings of 2 hit shutout relief and secure the victory

Honorable Mention: Pedro Martinez of The Las Vegas Flyin' Elvises' goes 6 innings, allowing only one hit while stiking out 4. Steve Carlton finishes the last three innings to record a rare save, the 3rd of his illustrious career. "Whatever Elvis needs me to do, I'm ok with it. We got the W and that's all that counts." S Carlton
Hitting: The Austin Wranglers raise the bar by 4 runs already, as they pound out 20 hits, K.O.ing the  Honolulu Islanders, out in the Pacific. Five Wrangler batsmen had 3 hits or more, led by Rod Carew's 4. Carew also drew a walk and scored 4 runs. George Davis goes 2 for 5, scoring three times and driving in 4. Gary Sheffield added 3 RBI.

Honorable Mention: The Jacksonville Hammerhead Sharks appear to be named aptly, as they hammer the Baton Rouge Gumbo 14-2 down in the swamp. All nine starters get at least one hit, while the two guys at the top of the order, Tim Raines and Pete Browning, go a combined 6 for 10, with a walk, 5 runs scored and 6 RBI.

Honorable Mention:
Woody English of the Jax Hammerhead Sharks matches Babe Herman's 5 RBI, and goes 2 for 5, including a 3 run blast.
Pitching:Three Honolulu Islanders pitchers combined to allow only 3 hits as they shut out the visiting Austin Wranglers. Howie Camnitz goes 5 for the win, followed by Bobby Bolin who allowed only 1 hit in 3 innings, then turning the ball over to Mike Gonzalez for an uneventful 9th.
