John Barrett was an engineer at Abbey Road Studios who searched through the studio vaults for Beatles material in 1982. The tracks on these seven discs are taken from Barrett's direct cassette dubs. Barrett was probably hired by EMI to find interesting material for the 1983 Abbey Road Show, a program which documented the Beatles' sessions at Abbey Road.

Some of the material here has not appeared on other bootlegs, such as the early version of 'What You're Doing.' Most of the material is of excellent sound quality and surpasses some earlier appearances of unreleased tracks, however there are a handfull of tracks that sound rather muddy. Some of  the most interesting tracks are the long version of 'It's All Too Much' and the re-make of 'That Means A Lot,' both of which appear in lower fidelity on 'Arrive Without Aging.'

There is also quite a bit of material here that appeared on the Beatles Anthologies in edited form. The Barrett tapes provide longer versions in many cases. The rest of this box set includes some solo material, Glyn Johns final mix of the Get Back album, exerpts from the 1983 Abbey Road show and a lot of re-mixed or stereo versions of songs. Hard-core collectors will probably find four different stereo mixes of 'She Loves You' interesting. However, the casual collector would be probably be inclined to seek out the stripped down two disc version by Vigotone called 'Turn Me On Dead Man.'
