How May I Become A Christian ?

Receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and confessing him as Lord are the most important acts you or anyone else will ever do. Please read through these Scriptures to see God's plan for you.

First, the bad news."All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God" (Romans 3:23). "If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us" (1 John 1:8).

Sin separates from God."Your sins have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you" (Isaiah 59:2). "The wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23).

Now, the good news. God loves you."For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life"(John 3:16).

God did for us what we could never do for ourselves."For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God--not because of works, lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:8,9).

God sent Jesus to save us from our sins by his death and resurrection."God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). "He died for our sins and rose again to make us right with God" (Romans 4:25).

You can accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior by believing in Him. "If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved"

It almost sounds to good to be true doesn't it? The human response is that we should have to add to some work or participate in some ritual before God accepts us. That couldn't be farther from the truth. This transaction occurs on a heart level. If you try to earn God's favor by working for it, you'll never obtain or merit it. Christ did the work on our behalf. Trust in that. Rest in that and good works will flow from you. Works that bring glory to the Giver of eternal life, not you. In the area of salvation, so many put the cart before the horse. Please read the following Scripture again very carefully:

Ephesians 2:8-10

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

As Christians we certainly need to repent of our sins and we need to be baptized as a believer. However "belief " must proceed these acts in order for them to mean anything. If we do these "good works" and "acts of obedience" without being born again first, they lose any significance to God or to ourselves. When we are born again, Christ lives in our hearts, works through our lives and is the source of all that is good and acceptable to God. Make the decision to live for Him daily, and He'll live through you.
