* Yawn*. What a boring game that was! In what looked like a possible Maryland blowout early actually turned into a bit of a game in the second half for about 13 seconds or so. Thats how long it took Indiana to blow their only lead of importance and once Juan Dixon canned that 3 to put Maryland back up, it was all over. In the end the Terrapins proved too strong and pretty much won it going away at the end 64-52 over the hapless Indiana Hoosiers. In a typical sign of support for their school, Maryland students rioted and burned cars. Ahhhh, kids.

As everyone knew going in, Chris C Mac McGurrin ended up the 2002 champion and pulled in a nice cool $480 for his efforts. Rosanne McFarland takes home the $240 second place prize and somehow Chris' dad, Frank McGurrin, managed to win the $80 third place prize. Congratulations to Rosanne and the McGurrin dynasty. The top 20 point getters ended up looking like this:
McGurrin, Chris #1 McFarland, Rosanne McGurrin, Frank #1 Murtari #1, Mark Allard, Lisa Madden, Kevin Easton #2, Tammie Lamoureux, Pete Pine #1, Marc Ansty, Diane Evans, Diane Bach #1, Dave Dauphin/Jankowski #3 Kehoe, Steve Kulina, Kathy Miner #1, John Sawicki, Mary Dennehy, Lisa Martin, Larue Bach #2, Dave

Hey, what would the pool be without a quote from Buttercup? It's kind of like Dandy Don and his "Turn out the lights" schtick from Monday Night Football, no?

Please note Mrs Commissioner up there at #18 and one of our 3 celebrities, the great Pete Lamouraux, finished in a very respectable 8th place. The other celebs, legendary radio personality Sebastian finished in 138th place and the mysterious Ugly Mike in 161st place. Ugly indeed!
I hate to do this so late, but I must bring to your attention the strange saga of OCGs Helen Guay. Poor Helen.

Every year there are folks who do this, but her situation is a first. Helen ended up having Maryland winning the pool. Fine. No problem there obviously. Only thing is she had them emerging from the LEFT side of the bracket to face Oregon in the finals (both teams were on the RIGHT side of the bracket). So, the ruling of the Commissioners office was that she be awarded ZERO points for the Final Four as she had Maryland written in as winning the Indiana-Oklahoma game. It was also decided that in the event Maryland won the championship she would be awarded the 32 points for that, which she was. So in case youre looking at the standings and wondering about why she has 0 for the Final Four and 32 for the finals, well, now you know.

Well, folks. Thatll do it. Another one in the books for us. Number 10 to be exact. And as always five lucky
folks walk away with some spending money. Thanks to the other 161 of us who also participated but came away with nothing but some yucks for our $5 investments. Well, hopefully next year Ill be able to break my jinx and finally pull down some dough in this thing. Two years in a row right now Ive gone down to the wire with a chance to win and got zilch. Third times got to be the charm. And I'm not talking just getting my money back. Like Joan Burkhart.
