Yes Batman, Martin and Hurley have teamed up. What's that? You're assigning this one to Robin?

Well, it's over. Another year, another NCAA failure for yours truly. While my champion, the Kansas Jayhawks, survived a scare against the SIU Salukis (no doubt Norm Weisenfluh's favorite team), the Commish's pick to emerge from the other side of the bracket, Texas A&M, lost a heartbreaker to Memphis, effectively ruining my chances at winning this thing. The Aggies were actually up by 1 with about 40 seconds to go when All American senior guard, Acie Law IV, broke in all alone for a lay-up and bricked it. Instead of going up by 3, A&M watched Memphis take advantage of the turnover and grab themselves the lead and the win. A dubious instant replay review by the officials at the end cost my boys precious time off the clock in their last ditch effort to pull it out. That aside, what a night. With three of the four games coming down to the final play, does it get any better than that? (Well, yeah, A&M winning would help for starters). The game of the night though was THE Ohio State University winning their second straight gut check game, this time rallying back from a 20 point deficit to defeat Tennessee 85-84. 52 year old freshman center, Greg Oden, mired in foul trouble and relegated to the OSU bench, came through when it counted as he blocked a game winning layup attempt by the Volunteers as time expired. OSU next faces off against Memphis tomorrow. The other game last evening saw the UCLA Bruins use an efficient, workman-like (ie - boring) performance to beat the Pitt Panthers, as their defense continually stifled the Panthers, while hitting 23 of 26 free throws. UCLA goes up against my Kansas squad tomorrow. I need Kansas more than ever now so I can try and salvage whatever I can here. After all, this is an AAM pool ... All About Me. Taking a look at the standings, Betsy Grimes has now moved into first place in what is proving to be a very, very tight race:

Had a few inquiries from folks about the email sent yesterday by pool participant Scott Szymkowicz (it's pronounced "Smith" by the way) in which he made some comments about my house or something or other. Mr Smith actually has his house on the market. For the life of me I can't imagine why it hasn't sold yet though:
TEXAS A&M AGGIE-ny Loss to Memphis means Commish's chances go up in smoke. Again.

Before I forget, thanks to Bill Corcoran and all the rest of you who stood by your Commish in the face of the John "Screamer" Martin - Tom Hurley Alliance yesterday. Don't worry about those guys though. It's kind of like when the Joker and Riddler used to team up against Batman. In the end, you just knew the Caped Crusader was gonna take 'em down to a little place called 'Pain Town.' So fear not, citizens. Gotham is safe as always.
