The swim is the first leg in the triathlon and usually lasts a fraction of the time that the other 2 legs do. It is important to be an efficient and cost-effective swimmer - you don't want to be catching up the rest of the race, and you also don't want to use too much energy.
I would recommend anyone serious about either learning to swim or becoming a more efficient swimmer to investigate the Total Immersion method. Get the book "Triathlon Swimming Made Easy" by Terry Laughlin, and an accompanying video "Fishlike Freestyle". |
