Things I do for fun...

I'm not always working on my computer or playing on my computer. I do occasionally pass the time in other ways.

Reading

At times I demonstrate that I am literate. These are some of the books I've read in the past ... um ... while, most recent first.

Foucault's Pendulum —Umberto Eco
Iceberg —Clive Cussler
Salt: A World History —Mark Kurlansky
Death of a Red Heroine —Qiu Xiaolong
...more

Games

I used to play Age of Empires (and AoE II) occasionally, but it's been forever since I played computer games and about as long since I had Windows running on a computer.

I also played Settler's of Catan quite a bit for a while. Then I realized it was all about convincing other people to let you do things they really shouldn't let you do, and I lost interest.

I'd really like to play more card games, but I don't have enough friends around here who play. My friend Dan, up in the Bay Area, has introduced me to a bunch of fun games that I hope to play again someday.

Going outside

I even venture outdoors from time to time. I like hiking, wandering, backpacking, whatever. My first, and favorite, real backpacking trip was to North Cascades National Park back in 1995. I went with two friends from college, Calvin and Dave. We were in the wilderness for five days, but we only feared for our lives for about two days.
