Bio
Name: Greg Lang
I am presently a consultant to non-profit agencies. I am 45, single and never married.
I have lived in Calgary for three decades, in the inner city, and have followed Calgary's community activism - along with its recent development fiascos and missteps, such as with the East Village. I have been a part of the Inner City Coalition. I am presently on the Bridgeland-Riverside Commmunity Association's board of directors. I have volunteered as a member of local low-budget independent arts groups.
I have been part of a number of groups that have advocated on behalf of low-income citizens and affordable housing, or contributed to studies about them. I was a member of a low-income group that contributed to the development and launch of a local barter money system, now called Calgary Dollars. I am conversant with various disability advocacy groups. I am committed through my work in local and community groups to a social agenda equalling a business agenda.
I have worked with inner-city councillors Druh Farrel, Joe Ceci, and Bob Hawkesworth in the matter of affordable housing and urban and inner-city issues, primarily before they became City Councillors.
I was part of the Ad Hoc Committee of Housing and Homelessness, established prior to and leading to the Calgary Homeless Awareness Foundatuion. I have also been part of groups that have staged events around Homeless Awareness Week in Calgary
I am on the board of directors for the Calgary chapter of Fair Vote Canada, an organization that advocates for reform of voting systems in favour of proportional representation.
